Tottenham have included Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson on a list of potential replacements for Hugo Lloris, and the move could help Erik ten Hag bring in a shot-stopper of his own.

Henderson opted to join Nottingham Forest on loan from Man Utd in July. That came after a disappointing 2021-22 campaign for the Englishman in which he only made three appearances across all competitions.

A month after signing for Forest, Henderson hit out at the Red Devils for their treatment of him the previous season. He explained how he was told he would get regular game time, only for Man Utd to leave him on the bench. He described this as ‘criminal’ at such a crucial time in his career.

Henderson would not fall for the same trick again and moved to the City Ground before Ten Hag even had the chance to analyse his ability.

Henderson is getting exactly what he wanted when joining Forest. He has established himself as Steve Cooper’s number one, making 20 appearances in all competitions so far. He has missed Forest’s last seven games due to a thigh injury and is hoping to return in late February.

It is hard to see Henderson remaining at Man Utd when his Forest loan ends this summer. He will likely want to secure a permanent move elsewhere so he can become a first-team regular. Man Utd chiefs probably won’t want to have Henderson in the squad either after his criticism of them.

There is the possibility of the 25-year-old going to fellow Premier League side Tottenham. According to football.london, Antonio Conte’s side have identified Henderson as a potential successor to Lloris.

The Spurs captain is now 36 years old. He is likely to retire at the end of next season when his Spurs contract runs out.

Tottenham interested in Man Utd and Everton players

The report explains how Spurs would like to bring in a homegrown keeper to replace Lloris. Henderson is on their list, as is Everton star Jordan Pickford.

Henderson may be the easier of the two to capture after Pickford signed a new Everton deal on Thursday.

Spurs are also looking at options from other leagues, such as AC Milan’s Mike Maignan, Jan Oblak of Atletico Madrid and Giorgi Mamardashvili, who plays for Valencia.

Should Spurs decide on Henderson as their main target, then this transfer could help Man Utd complete a signing of their own. James Ducker of The Telegraph recently reported Man Utd must ‘sell well’ in order to give Ten Hag a significant transfer budget. So Henderson going could give the Dutchman some money as he pursues Djordje Petrovic.

He is a 23-year-old Serbia international who is impressing for New England Revolution in Major League Soccer. American reporter Tom Bogert claims Man Utd are ‘heavily scouting’ him.

While Petrovic has not yet proven himself in one of the top leagues, he could end up being a shrewd signing from Ten Hag. He should not cost much as transfermarkt value him at just €2.5million (£2.2m).

So if Petrovic learns from David de Gea and ends up becoming Man Utd’s future number one, then Ten Hag will have saved the club big money.

Meanwhile, four Premier League sides including Tottenham and Liverpool are reportedly sizing up a Bundesliga raid for a towering midfielder.
