Tottenham have reportedly held talks with Julian Nagelsmann, with the former Bayern Munich manager ‘interested’ in taking the job.

Tottenham’s season has fallen off a cliff of late. While they were in contention for a top-four spot for much of the campaign, that prospect seems to have vanished.

Indeed, Spurs have dropped to seventh in the table, and are now nine points adrift from fourth-placed Manchester United, who have a game in hand over them.

Form had been slipping for a little while – a 3-3 draw with Southampton in March came two games after a loss to Wolves, with a 4-1 thumping at the hands of struggling Leicester City not long before that game.

The Southampton game was significant, in that it was Antonio Conte’s last as Tottenham boss. Following the game, he unleashed on his players, blasting them for being “selfish”.

In the six games since the Italian’s departure, Spurs have won just once. What’s more concerning is that they’ve lost three times – while two were against third-placed Newcastle United and fifth-placed Liverpool, the other was against Bournemouth; a side they’d expect to beat on most occasions.

As such, the north London outfit needs to regain some fight for next season, and a good manager will be key in facilitating that growth.

Former Bayern Munich manager Nagelsmann has been one of the top names linked with the job. He’s been without a job since he was sacked by the Bundesliga outfit in favour of Thomas Tuchel at the back end of March.

Spurs hold positive talks with Nagelsmann

Nagelsmann was in the running for the vacant Chelsea job. However, TEAMtalk revealed recently he backed out of talks as he felt it wasn’t the right fit, but is open to a move to Spurs.

Sky Sports are reporting the manager has now held promising talks with the north London outfit.

Indeed, that report suggests talks have been held ‘in the last few days’ and Nagelsmann is ‘interested’ in the job, though ‘no agreements or commitments’ have yet been made.

Bayern are reportedly demanding a transfer fee if the boss is to take up a new role.

It’s not clear if they have any grounds to do so, as they did dismiss him previously.

Levy pushing for Nagelsmann

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is reportedly ‘pushing more’ for Nagelsmann. What’s more, it’s suggested that there will be more talks to follow.

Those should give the manager the information he wants regarding  ‘how much power he would get in transfers’.

It’s not hard to see why Levy is keen on the former Bayern boss. Indeed, Nagelsmann has won the Bundesliga, the German super cup on two occasions, and been named as the Bundesliga manager of the season previously.

What’s more, his sides play an expansive brand of football, which could catapult Spurs up the league if he was to successfully implement that style at the club.

He could have a bearing in Harry Kane’s future, too. The Englishman has been linked with Bayern for some time, as he was when Nagelsmann was there, highlighting the manager is a fan of the striker.

As such, the opportunity to work under a young coach who is a fan of his could keep Kane around. Spurs will hope they’re able to land the manager and he can inspire them to big things.
