Tottenham must be more 'arrogant' to take the final step, says Stoke boss Mark Hughes

Tottenham need to add an air of "arrogance" to their game if they are to take the final step and win trophies, according to Stoke City manager Mark Hughes.

Spurs have not won a major piece of silverware since lifting the League Cup in 2008 but are still fighting on two fronts this season.

Mauricio Pochettino's side face Millwall in the FA Cup quarter finals and also remain on the fringes of the title race, having slipped 13 points adrift of pacesetters Chelsea.

Stoke will be aiming to put a dent in Tottenham's title aspirations at White Hart Lane this afternoon and Hughes is adamant the north Londoners should become more egotistical.

“There doesn’t seem to be an arrogance about the Spurs team. Maybe that’s what they need to take that final step," Hughes told the Mirror.

“They have been strong for a couple of years now and last season they pushed Leicester better than anybody and were more consistent than any of the other top sides.

"They have continued in the same vein this season. It shows they are a top level team.”

Spurs have put Stoke to the sword in recent meetings between the two sides and secured a comfortable 4-0 victory over the Potters earlier this season.

But Hughes is convinced Pochettino's players will face a different proposition in N17 today.

"They are very impressive at home and we will be up against it. We are in good shape though.

"We disappointed ourselves against Spurs earlier in the season but we are a different proposition for them now. We have improved," added the Welshman.
