Tottenham next five fixtures compared to Man United, Aston Villa and Chelsea in top four race
Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou suffered his first defeat of the Premier League season as his team lost 2-1 at Newcastle United.
Spurs had managed to find a way to get on top of the game in the North East in the first half but suffered a sucker punch less than ten minutes before the interval as Harvey Barnes' neat finish found the bottom corner. Tottenham rallied in the second half and gained a deserved equaliser when Dan Burn directed the ball into his own goal from close range.
The match was rather even heading into the latter exchanges but Alexander Isak's goal on 78 minutes was the all-important winner and ensured the North London club tasted defeat for the first time this campaign. It remains early days in the season and there is no need to panic just yet but Tottenham will be looking ahead at what is to come post-international break to try and put their Champions League bid back on track.
Football.london has taken a closer look at the next five fixtures and how they compare to the North London club's Champions League rivals.

What FL says: It may only be early days but it has to be stressed just how difficult this next run of fixtures in the Premier League is for Tottenham and how it could impact their Champions League hopes. You would expect Arsenal and United to be tough but Brighton and West Ham should not be underestimated either. Brentford have started the season well despite losing Ivan Toney so there are certainly no gimmes around the corner for Tottenham. It should also be taken into account that the Europa League starts in this run and the Carabao Cup so there are very few rests for Postecoglou and he will need to manage his group accordingly.
