Tottenham have tabled a more lucrative bid than Aston Villa and a European giant for a surprise late winger signing, and a report has revealed why they’re yet to get a response.

Spurs and Villa are both on the hunt for attacking reinforcements this month. Tottenham swooped in at the eleventh hour to hijack Everton’s loan for Arnaut Danjuma. Villa, meanwhile, signed Jhon Duran from Chicago Fire and are known to be pushing for several more additions.

Unai Emery’s side were mulling a move for Udinese’s Gerard Deulofeu before he suffered an untimely ACL injury. Elsewhere, they were prepared to activate the £45m release clause of Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams.

Ultimately, the bid was never made once it became apparent Williams would snub a move to Villa Park anyway.

Regardless, according to reports out of Italy, both Villa and Spurs have tabled bids to sign Chile international, Dario Osorio.

The 20-year-old plays in his home country for Universidad de Chile and has bagged seven goals in 27 appearances this season.

He’s earned two senior caps for Chile since being handed his debut in 2022. The left-footed Osorio is ultra-versatile and can operate on either flank or in a deeper midfield role on either side in a three.

Osorio is clearly a man in demand if the reporting of MilanLive.it is anything to go by. They claim Universidad de Chile have received three offers for their prized asset – from Tottenham, Villa and AC Milan.

AC are exploring late attacking arrivals having seen their Nicolo Zaniolo move run aground. Roma only want an outright sale – not a loan – and Milan cannot afford the £24m they’re demanding.

Osorio represents a more budget-friendly option and Milan are understood to have bid €5m (approx. £4.4m).

However, it’s Tottenham who are believed to have tabled the more ‘important offer’ that is also termed ‘the best from an economic point of view’.

As of last night, Tottenham – or any club, for that matter – hadn’t yet received an answer from the Chilean side.

Explaining why, the report adds Osorio was recently taking part in the 2023 South American U-20 Championship. Chile were eliminated on January 28 and Osorio only returned home on Monday.

As such, and with tonight’s 11pm deadline (for English clubs) fast approaching, the coming hours will prove decisive for Osorio’s future.
