Tottenham player ratings vs Brentford: Son with menacing display as Oliver Skipp seriously impresses
Son Heung-min returned to form as Tottenham beat Brentford 2-0 in an encouraging derby display.
After a clear week on a training field under Antonio Conte following the postponement of Sunday’s match at Burnley, an improved Spurs took the lead when Sergi Canos turned Son’s cross into his own net in the first half.
The South Korean clinched the game with a classic Conte goal after the break, starting and finishing a lethal counter-attack following good work from Harry Kane and Sergio Reguilon.

Hugo Lloris 7
Did well to cope with Brentford’s aerial bombardment, including two brave punches in the final 10 minutes. Had to be sharp to save a late Ivan Toney effort.
Davinson Sanchez 6
A few uncomfortable moments under high balls and rarely looks happy in possession but helped Spurs to an encouraging clean sheet.
Eric Dier 7
Another solid and unfussy display at the heart of the back three, despite switching off late on when Toney ran in behind.

Ben Davies 8
Casually claimed the opening goal and went close in the second half with a looping header. Linked well with Reguilon down the left and defended well, putting his body on the line.
Emerson Royal 5
His crossing was erratic, including one poor ball after being released by Kane. He wasn’t always comfortable against opposite man Rico Henry and replaced late on.
Sergio Reguilon 7
Began to look like a proper Conte wing-back. Got forward well all game and made the second goal with a lung-busting run and low cross for Son – even if his final ball had been hit and miss until that point.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg 6
Sat back and allowed Skipp to be the more adventurous of the midfield two. Kept it simple with the ball.
Really impressive box-to-box display. Snapped into tackle after tackle but drove Spurs forward with the ball. Should really have had an assist with a well-weighted through ball for Kane.
Lucas Moura 6
Forced an early save from Alvaro Fernandez but otherwise offered little in attack, aside from his usual harrying.
Heung-min Son 8
Ended a subdued run of form with a menacing display. Crossed for the opening goal after a well-worked short corner and scored the clincher. Also extended Fernandez with a fierce drive.
Harry Kane 7
Unlocked Brentford with three sublime passes, the first two wasted by Royal and Reguilon – but the third creating the crucial second goal. But missed his big chance, firing too close to Fernandez 1v1.

Harry Winks (Lucas 75’) 7
Released Son with an eye-catching pass, although guilty of losing possession in a dangerous area when he tried to dribble out.
Japhet Tanganga (Royal 83’) 6
Helped to shore up the right flank, where Brentford had begun to look dangerous, and got forward well in the final minute.
