Tottenham player ratings vs Man United as super Solanke hits double and Forster has nightmare
Tottenham Hotspur won 4-3 against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Thursday and here are our Spurs player ratings.
Ange Postecoglou had Yves Bissouma back from suspension for this game and as Destiny Udogie picked up a knock against Southampton, Djed Spence switched across from the right to cover for the Italian.
Dominic Solanke fired the opening goal just 15 minutes into the contest. Pedro Porro fried an effort from outside the box and Altay Bayindir parried it out and the striker smashes it in off the right-hand post.
Dejan Kulusevski, who had tested the keeper in the first half with a low shot, made it 2-0 less than a minute into the second half. Son Heung-min played in James Maddison down the left and the midfielder fired the ball low into the box and it was only half-cleared to the Swede who smashed it home.
Solanke then made it 3-0. Spence clipped a perfect ball over the top into the striker's path and he ran inside Lisandro Martinez and drilled a low shot into the bottom left corner for his second goal of the night bringing a punch of delight from Postecoglou.
Fraser Forster then made a fantastic full length save from Joshua Zirkee's header but then fluffed a pass to Radu Dragusin soon after which was intercepted by Bruno Fernandes and Zirkzee tapped his pass home. Forster then messed up again on 70 minutes, taking far too long to pass the ball and Amad slid in to send the ball back into the empty net.
Spurs scored a fourth goal though as Son's corner curled all the way in with Bayindir claiming Lucas Bergvall was holding his arm. United grabbed another one back when Jonny Evans headed past Forster but the host held on for the win and a semi-final spot.
Here are our Tottenham player ratings:
Fraser Forster
Made a great save to deny Zirkzee in the second half only to then fluff a pass to Dragusin which was worked back to the United striker to tap in. Made a complete mess over kicking out a pass pack and was closed down by Amad and the ball flew back into the net. Made a strange save with his feet from Amad later on. Evans' late header seemed to go through his arms from close range. He's been so good recently but this was a poor night for Forster which changed the momentum of a game going only one way at 3-0. 2
Pedro Porro
It was his shot from outside the box that was parried to Solanke to fire home. United kept targeting the space in behind him and he struggled at first but got better as the game wore on. 6
Radu Dragusin
Battled away and deserved better than the three goals Spurs conceded in the end. 7
Archie Gray
Another decent showing as a centre-back and there's little he or Dragusin could do to compensate when Forster is going to have a double moment like that. 7
Djed Spence
His first start at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and it was another very good display. A constant option down the left and he played a lovely ball into the path of Solanke for Spurs' third goal. 8
Pape Matar Sarr
A constant ball of energy and played well even though he picked up a yellow card in the first half. 8
Yves Bissouma
A return to the team and he looked keen to make up for lost time with a dominant display in the centre of the pitch, showing off all of his skills. It was a really good performance with a couple of important blocks, tackles and dribbles until he had a couple of nervy late moments and then was beaten by Evans for United's third goal. 8
James Maddison
A busy display and it was his low ball into the box that led to Kulusevski's goal. 7
Dejan Kulusevski
Tested the keeper with a low shot before the half hour mark. Scored a killer second goal within a minute of the second half starting, smashing home a loose ball after Maddison's low cross was only half-cleared to him. 8
Dominic Solanke
Netted his eighth goal of the season with a first-time effort from the keeper's parry and then his ninth came with an excellent run and low finish. He holds the ball up so well and links the play superbly. He was involved in the build-up to Kulusevski's goal s well with his quick feet and strength. 9
Son Heung-min
Kept trying to find a way through and played Maddison on the overlap for the second goal. Grabbed a strange goal of his own when his corner curled all the way into the net for Spurs' fourth. 7
Subs
Lucas Bergvall
Battled away when he came on for the final 14 minutes or so. 6
Brennan Johnson
Replaced Solanke late on. N/A
Sergio Reguilon
Came on for his first appearance of the season late on. N/A
