Tottenham kicked off their Europa Conference League campaign with a 2-2 draw with Rennes in France.

Lucas Moura’s deflected cross gave Spurs an early lead but in the end they needed a rare goal from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to salvage a point.

Simon Collings ran the rule over Nuno Espirito Santo’s side...

Pierluigi Gollini 5

Couldn’t do much about the first Rennes goal, which was finished well, but he won’t be happy with the second - which he palmed straight to Gaetan Laborde.

Matt Doherty 5

Got into a few good attacking positions but really struggled to make them count. Helped create the second Spurs goal, but even that cross had a deflection.

Japhet Tanganga 6

Suspended for Chelsea this weekend but he started tonight. Fairly solid performance from the youngster at centre-back.

Joe Rodon 6

Making his European debut and did okay. A contender to start against Chelsea this weekend given injuries and suspensions.

Ben Davies 6

Better than Doherty on the other flank, but not by much. Might be disappointed with second Rennes goal and Laborde beating him to the rebound.

Tanguy Ndombele 7 | Star man

Probably Tottenham’s best player on the night. Played a key role in the Spurs goal with a delightful backheel. Looked bright and lively.

Oliver Skipp 6

Neat and tidy, but didn’t really influence the game massively. Outshone by Ndombele and Hojbjerg in midfield.

Bryan Gil 6

A couple of nice moments. Still seems to be finding his feet, and best position, at Tottenham. Offers Nuno something different.

Lucas Moura 7

Arguably Tottenham’s best forward before he was forced to come off due to injury. Provided the assist for the first Spurs goal.

Harry Kane 6

Much more involved than he was against Crystal Palace last weekend. Played a key role in Tottenham’s goal. Taken off before the hour mark.

Steven Bergwijn 5

Only on the pitch for 30 minutes or so as he had to limp off through injury following a late tackle. Had started fairly lively.

Substitutions

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (Bergwijn 30’) 7

Showed his seniority with a good performance off the bench. Took his goal well.

Dane Scarlett (Moura 54’) 5

Worked hard and tried to be busy. Little chances for him to pounce on though.

Emerson Royal (Kane 54’) 6

Played further forward than he normally does and looked solid.

Dele Alli (Ndombele 78’) N/A

Subs not used: Lloris, Austin, Reguilon, Winks, John, Fagan-Walcott, Omole, Markanday
