Tottenham player ratings vs Watford: Hugo Lloris catlike as Lucas Moura goes down too many blind alleys
Tottenham left it late to beat struggling Watford 1-0, with Davinson Sanchez bagging the winner in stoppage-time.
The centre-half rose to head home Heung-min Son’s free-kick and finally break Watford’s resistance after Spurs had been frustrated for long periods by the Hornets.

Made a catlike one-handed save to deny Joshua King in Watford’s best chance and appeared to get a hand on the ball in a brave challenge on Joao Pedro.
Defended well when called upon and proved an unlikely match-winner, getting in front of Daniel Bachmann to score in stoppage-time.

Had the odd moment of discomfort against Emmanuel Dennis and Pedro, but mostly solid, as Spurs dominated possession.

A robust defensively display. Brought the ball out of defence well, although his long passes weren’t always successful.

No-one was allowed more space and time in the final third but the Brazilian put in a succession of poor crosses. You couldn’t escape the feeling that Watford knew he wasn’t much of a threat.

Got up and down as usual, and was tidy in possession, but Conte could surely have replaced him with Winks much sooner as Spurs were frustrated. Made a great chance for Kane with a challenge on Imran Louza.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg 5
Did the basics, but offered nothing in the way of guile or spark on the ball to help Spurs to a breakthrough. In games like these, do Spurs really need Hojbjerg and Skipp?
Sergio Reguilon 6
The more threatening of the wing-backs but saw less of the ball than Royal, as Watford doubled-up. When he was involved his contributions were mixed. Smashed one effort into the side-netting.
Lucas Moura 6
Responsible for the game’s best pass – a dink behind to set up Son – and flashed one effort at Daniel Bachmann in the Watford goal. But ran down too many blind alleys as Watford crowded out the space.
Heung-min Son 6
Continued to look out of form but made the goal with a fine free-kick, which he won. Forced Bachmann into an outstanding save with a neat volley but otherwise offered none of his usual threat in the final third.
Harry Kane 6
Another frustrating afternoon. Squandered his best opening of the game, firing wide after Skipp had won possession, but did well to test Bachmann with a fierce effort. Involved in some encouraging build-up play.
