Tottenham Hotspur players have been left stunned after Dele Alli was left out of Jose Mourinho’s squad for a second game in succession for today’s trip to Southampton.

As revealed by Telegraph Sport, Dele’s future was this week placed in doubt after the forward was left out of the Europa League trip to Bulgaria, having been substituted at half-time in last week’s defeat to Everton.

Mourinho’s latest snub has caused major surprise within the Tottenham squad, as Dele is a popular figure among his team-mates.

Dele is understood to be upset and confused by the decision, with players now concerned he will be frozen out under Mourinho if he remains at the club.

Jose Mourinho said on BT Sport of Alli's omission when asked whether he was injured: "No, we have a huge squad with numbers that are very difficult to manage.

"I never had it, I don't like to have it. It isn't easy for me to be here with 18 players and 10 at the training ground - too many players.

"We have too many players for some positions and some of them are paying the price for this."

Inter Milan are interested in taking Dele on loan for the season, while Paris Saint-Germain have held an interest in the player in the past.
