Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly among the clubs hoping to sign one of the most exciting young players in European football.
Tottenham have some impressive young players in their senior squad. These include midfielders Pape Matar Sarr and Oliver Skipp, wing-back Ryan Sessegnon and winger Dejan Kulusevski, all of whom are 22 or younger.
Tottenham also have three young strikers who have the potential to make a big impact in the Premier League. The first is Dane Scarlett, who represents England U20s. He is currently picking up senior experience with League One Portsmouth.
Troy Parrott is another example. He is a full Republic of Ireland international currently representing Preston North End in the Championship.
The third and final attacking starlet on Spurs’ books is Will Lankshear. He was in deadly form at Sheffield United before linking up with Spurs in August. And the 17-year-old is already showing Spurs coaches what he is capable of.
Despite Antonio Conte’s great options for the future, they could always do with adding more young players to their ranks. This is what ‘Big Six’ rivals Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool all do, to great effect.
With this in mind, Spurs are supposedly in the mix to sign arguably Turkey’s biggest young talent. According to Sport Witness, who cite reports coming out of Italy, the north London side are interested in snapping up Fenerbahce’s Arda Guler.
He is a 17-year-old attacking midfielder billed as the next big thing in Turkey. Indeed, the report goes as far as calling him a ‘prodigy’.
Fenerbahce starlet tipped for huge future
He has already made 29 appearances for Fenerbahce, notching six goals and six assists.
Journalists in Turkey expect Guler to set Europe alight once he inevitably achieves a transfer elsewhere.
And Spurs are apparently taking initial steps to sign Guler. He will cost a significant fee for such a young player, given his enormous potential, but this could end up being worth it.
However, Spurs chief Fabio Paratici will have to fight off two large clubs when trying to land Guler.
That’s because interest also comes from reigning Ligue 1 champions PSG. They are always a threat when it comes to signing Europe’s best teenagers and that is certainly the case here.
It is not just down to Spurs and PSG, either. Serie A leaders Napoli also like the look of Guler and want to take him to Italy. However, Spurs and PSG are reportedly ahead of Napoli in the transfer pursuit right now.
Fenerbahce can effectively charge as much as they want for the attacker. His contract with them runs until summer 2025, so they are at no risk of a free-transfer exit.
Guler does need to be careful when deciding where he goes and when he goes. He doesn’t want to move too early and just end up sitting on Spurs, PSG or Napoli’s bench. This would completely stunt his development, which has so far been very exciting.
Perhaps he should wait until the end of the current campaign, or even next season, before moving away from his homeland. This would allow him to build up a necessary amount of first-team experience beforehand.
