Tottenham are reportedly ready to ship out Harry Winks this summer, with Newcastle United leading the charge for the midfielder.
Winks has never really established himself as a regular in the Tottenham side. Still, he has racked up 203 senior appearances for his boyhood club.
His most appearances in a season came during the 2019/20 campaign. The Englishman played 41 times in all competitions, with 31 of those appearances coming in the Premier League.
However, the following season his role dwindled. Winks made 30 appearances in all competitions, with half of those coming in various cup competitions.
This season, Winks also made just 30 appearances, only starting 17 of those. The 10-cap England international is seemingly surplus to requirements at Tottenham.
As such, it seems he may be on the verge of leaving the club he has played at for his whole career.
The Daily Mail reports that Winks will be allowed to leave Spurs. The north London outfit have put a £25million valuation on the 26-year-old.
The same report states that a number of players will be allowed to leave Tottenham this summer.
With a Champions League run upcoming, Antonio Conte will want to up the quality at the club.
Offloading some fringe players will bring in funds which can be put towards fresh talent coming in.
Newcastle on alert for Winks
Newcastle are one of a couple of Premier League sides that are reportedly keen on moving for Winks. Also reported to have registered an early interest are Southampton.
Both sides would likely have no problems in conjuring up the required fee for Winks.
What’s more, they should both be able to offer him a more regular role in the side than the one he has had at Tottenham. With that being said, a move to either side may help him to rediscover the form he showed earlier in his career.
Winks will no doubt be eager to play regular football again, and potentially break back into the England side.
As such, a move away from Tottenham seems like it may be the best course of action. At 26 years old, he should be able to give his all to whichever side he ends up at.
