Tottenham look set to raid Italy for another centre-back who was named in the Serie A Team of the Season, much like Cristian Romero was before his switch to north London in the summer of 2021.
Bringing in at least one new central defender was always likely to be on the cards for whoever took over as Spurs boss after a season of struggles at the back in a hugely disappointing campaign.
Eric Dier’s form fell away badly just prior to the World Cup and he was never able to recapture it while Romero looked a shadow of the player who impressed in his first campaign at the club.
Add in the fact that Clement Lenglet was only on loan from Barcelona and the major inconsistencies that continue in Davinson Sanchez’s game and Tottenham were always going to look to strengthen at the back this summer.
And it appears that they have turned to a former target to fix their issues in the shape of Juventus star Gleison Bremer, as reported by Calciomercato.
Juve only signed the 26-year-old from Torino last summer but his form saw him named in the best starting XI in Italy during the last campaign, while also attracting more attention as a result.
The report states that while Bremer is happy in Turin, Juventus continue to go through a difficult time on and off the pitch and that has led to reports that they will be willing to sell at the right price.
Bremer not actively pushing for Juve exit
Calciomercato adds that the Brazilian’s entourage have already had contact with several top clubs, with ‘first Tottenham and Atletico Madrid’ looking for a centre-back with Bremer’s qualities.
And while there are no actual figures mentioned in terms of a fee, it’s claimed that Juve will not accept any lowball offers.
However, something that they consider a convincing bid will make a move possible.
The report finishes by stating that while there has been contact between Tottenham and Bremer’s camp, the player is not desperate to leave and will not be pushing for an exit as such.
It all basically boils down to whether the Turin side decide if they want to sell, leaving Spurs monitoring the situation ahead of what is expected to be a busy summer of ins and outs in north London.
