Tottenham have been sent a warning by former manager Tim Sherwood that Real Madrid may come calling for Pedro Porro in the January transfer window amid some injury issues for the Spanish giants.

Real's long-serving right-back Dani Carvajal is likely to miss the rest of the season after suffering a serious knee injury in October. Winger Lucas Vazquez has been filling in for the 32-year-old recently, and there have understandably been plenty of rumours about what the La Liga champions could do in the January transfer window.

Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has been linked, with his contract expiring at the end of the season - though it looks unlikely that he would agree to leave the Reds in the winter, and even less likely Arne Slot's side would consider selling him midway through the season.

However, former Spurs boss Sherwood says his old club should be worried about an enquiry for Pedro Porro following some good recent form.

"There's always a worry, though, when you're doing a job like Ange [Postecoglou] has done, and you're signing the right players and playing them in the correct way, automatically those players are going to attract interest from big clubs," Sherwood said at the launch of Ladbrokes' "Gaffer of all Accas".

"Micky van de Ven is one I'm sure plenty of clubs would be looking at, and maybe the only question mark around him is the amount of injuries he seems to pick up, but other than that... wow. He's been a great find for the club.

"Pedro Porro is somebody who I was critical of when I first saw him playing, under Antonio Conte, but he was being asked to play as a conventional right-back, and that's not where his assets lie. His assets lie in going forward, picking the ball up in midfield with plenty of energy, power, and good deliveries, and there's lots of teams out there at the moment who are looking for that kind of player... Real Madrid being one of them.

"Whether it's going to be Trent Alexander-Arnold or Pedro Porro... maybe the fact he's Spanish might come into things, so that is something that would concern me in the next couple of windows."

However, Sherwood says that currently it's a good time to be a Tottenham player, with outstanding facilities at the club and the chance to really push to finally end the club's trophy drought.

"At the moment, if I'm a Tottenham player, and I could be part of a team who wins something at that club, then I know I'm going to be lauded forever by those fans, because it's been such a long time," he added.

"If I was a player, I'd be inclined to stick with them; they're a magnificent football club and they're paying great money, have these wonderful facilities and a manager who wants to play on the front foot.

"We only see what happens on a Saturday, but these boys have to turn up every single day, so they've got to enjoy what they're doing. Sometimes, we've seen under other managers, that hasn't always been the case. Sometimes it's not easy to go to work. But I'm sure it is now... especially if you're buying into Ange Postecoglou's project, and I think these players are.

"If they continue to do that, then I think they'll get their rewards, and they'll finally pick up trophies... and maybe you'll see a statue of all of them outside of that stadium!"
