Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has revealed a conversation with former Tottenham star Christian Eriksen convinced him to sign for the club earlier this summer.

Hojbjerg became Jose Mourinho's first summer signing last month, joining from Southampton on a five-year deal as full-back Kyle Walker-Peters moved in the opposite direction.

Spurs identified Hojbjerg as a key transfer target and beat off competition from Everton to land the former Bayern Munich man. Hojbjerg said it was "not difficult" deciding to join Spurs after talks with Mourinho, but has now said compatriot Eriksen helped strengthen his desire to join the Europa League club.

“I called Christian and had a chat. I had some questions that I would have had clarified. And that was really positive. The talk I had with Christian, strengthened my desire and feeling to move to Tottenham,” he told Ekstra Bladet.

He has since appeared in various pre-season matches and remains convinced that he made the right decision.

"The guys are good, the coaching staff fantastic," Hojbjerg (below) said after his debut in the win over Ipswich last month. "The whole surrounding around the team, everything is well set up, so it's really good.

"There is an environment where everybody wants to be better, everybody wants to have no excuses.

"As a human being, but also as a sportsman, as a football player, it's a great place to be."
