Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui has given an update on Adama Traore’s contract, which could play into the hands of Tottenham.

Traore’s situation at Wolves has been up in the air for some time. Indeed, he left the club to join Barcelona on loan last season.

Given he was allowed to leave on a short-term basis, it would not have been a surprise if he had been allowed to leave for good.

Barcelona had the option to make his loan deal permanent for £29million. However, he hardly pulled up any trees on his return to Camp Nou, and they decided against the permanent transfer.

Interest in Traore over the summer could have easily seen him move on. Tottenham, Everton and Leeds United were all lining up to take him on board.

Selling the winger might have made sense for Wolves, too. Indeed, he is out of contract at the end of the current season, and selling would have guaranteed they made a fee.

However, despite reports they would have accepted £10million, a sale never came to fruition.

As such, he has remained at Molineux this season. The Spaniard has started six of Wolves’ 15 Premier League games, getting his name on the scoresheet once, against Crystal Palace.

Traore in line for simple move

Wolves are currently struggling in the league. Indeed, they find themselves rock bottom, having managed a win in just two games so far.

Things could go from bad to worse, with Traore’s contract situation looming. Indeed, new boss Lopetegui has admitted there is uncertainty about the winger’s deal.

“I know he has not finished the contract but the most important thing is he works hard here until June,” he said.

“After that, I don’t know what is going to happen. Of course, I would be very happy if he was here.”

Time is ticking down for Wolves to rectify that situation. As such, it currently looks likely that he will move on, meaning they will lose out on a fee.

Tottenham move on the cards

A move to Tottenham makes a lot of sense. They were one of the sides that were interested previously, and that interest has continued for some time.

What’s more, it has previously been reported that Traore is holding out for a top-four move. Spurs are a member of that group, and look keen to add to their squad.

Traore could be a perfect fit for a few reasons. The right side of the defence has seen Emerson Royal underperform, and Djed Spence hardly get a game.

Traore could slot into that role, A Antonio Conte reportedly feels he could adapt to it well.

With that being said, Traore has played on the wing for the majority of the career. Spurs’ front line has been plagued by injuries for much of this season.

As such, the Wolves man would add more depth, and could therefore be a useful player, and as a bonus, would be joining for free.
