Tottenham still waiting on possible Covid-19 cases before Chelsea tie as club hope to avoid another outbreak

Tottenham are still waiting on possible Covid-19 cases in Antonio Conte's squad ahead of the Italian's return to Chelsea.

Conte yesterday revealed the club were waiting for the results of follow-up PCR tests on two players, which are expected today, with the club hoping to avoid another outbreak in the squad.

Premier League players currently take daily lateral flow tests, with any positives confirmed by PCR tests, which give a more accurate reading.

The two individuals concerned, believed to include one of Conte's key players, missed training today but the head coach remains hopeful they could be involved in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg tomorrow night.

"We are checking a couple of situations but we’re not sure 100 per cent that they’re going to miss the game," Conte said.

"We have to check and also during the day [Tuesday] see if there are new positives or not. Then we’ll see which players are available to play against Chelsea.

“We are living with this situation, not only Tottenham but all clubs. It’s not simple for any coach to change the plan you have in mind, especially when you play many games in a short time.

“You make a plan and sometimes players are positive so you have to totally change your plan. It’s not easy – not only for me but all managers."
