David Bentley believes Harry Kane can secure a stunning return to Tottenham Hotspur - pointing out Daniel Levy's ability in transfer dealings.

The Spurs legend ended his 19-year association with the club in 2023 when clinching a £82million move to Bayern Munich. After 280 goals in 450 games for the North London outfit, Kane set the Bundesliga alight with 44 goals in 45 games but failed to win any silverware.

The departure of the England great last season meant he was certain to never break Alan Shearer's Premier League goal-scoring record of 260 goals. Sitting at 213, the 31-year-old is 48 goals from immortality and according to the ex-Spurs midfielder, he potentially sees a reality where Kane becomes a Lilywhite again.

Speaking exclusively to football.london, via William Hill, Bentley - who played seven times for England - admitted that Kane's potential return to Spurs will depend on how successful his time in Germany turns out to be.

"You never know in football," the 40-year-old said. "Obviously Daniel [Levy] is very smart with his dealings. I think Spurs fans would welcome him back and I don't see nothing stopping that deal from happening.

"It just depends on how his time at Bayern will go. You never know, it could be a possibility, Harry's such a great professional and a good guy.

"But obviously you've seen what he's done when he's gone over there. It's unbelievable the goals he's scored and you never know if he wins a few things over the next few years, he can potentially come back and I don't see no reason why not."

Spurs have worked to replace Kane's goals in the transfer market, having signed Dominic Solanke for £65m from Bournemouth last month. The former Chelsea and Liverpool striker bagged 19 goals in the league last season and has been urged by ex-Spurs striker Les Ferdinand not to be anybody but himself when establishing himself under Ange Postecoglou.

"You haven’t gone to Tottenham to be Harry Kane or anybody else other than Dominic Solanke and we know Dominic Solanke can score goals in the Premier League," Ferdinand said. "That’s what he needs to keep doing.

"All those other things put pressure that doesn’t need to be there and he doesn’t need to put on himself either. People will make comparisons but there’s not a lot you can do.

"He’s who Tottenham have said 'this is who we think can score us goals' He’s got to remember that and I’m pleased. People will now say there is more pressure because there's an expectation at Tottenham as they brought him in to be the main man that scores goals."

Despite missing Spurs' last two games due to an ankle injury, the 26-year-old has been deemed fit for his first North London derby on Sunday (September 15).
