Tottenham are reportedly closing on an agreement to sign a new striker in the January window after a significant offer from Daniel Levy blew all other competition out the water for the in-demand star.
Antonio Conte has transformed Spurs’ fortunes since taking charge just over a year ago. Having qualified for the Champions League at the expense of Arsenal, Tottenham are now through to the last 16 of the competition. Next up is a mouthwatering clash against AC Milan for a place in the Champions League quarter-finals.
In order to maintain their progress – and to keep Conte happy – Tottenham are readying a new lucrative deal to extend the Italian’s contract. In addition, significant funds are being made available to Conte to strengthen Tottenham’s squad heading into 2023.
As a result, the club are reportedly chasing a number of exciting deals in the January window.
First up, a new defender is very much on their transfer wishlist. To that end, there are reports one much-maligned star could be offered to Inter Milan as part of a deap deal.
Spurs are also looking to bolster their midfield amid claims another swoop on Juventus is in the offing. Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur arrived last season, and a third arrival from the Bianconeri in Weston McKennie could also be on the cards.
However, Conte also wants to strengthen his attacking options and a deal for Marcus Thuram is also seemingly on the agenda.
The four-times capped France striker is in excellent form this season, scoring 13 times in 17 games. And with his Borussia Monchengladbach deal set to expire in the summer, demand for Thuram is understandably high.
Tottenham blow competition out the water for Marcus Thuram
Reports of Tottenham’s interest in Thuram first emerged earlier this week. However, competition is tough with Arsenal, Liverpool, Juventus and Inter Milan all in the running.
Fabrizio Romano claims the race to sign Thuram is ‘wide open’, despite talk of a transfer ‘blitz’ from Spurs to sign him.
Now it seems Tottenham are closing in on Thuram, with the January window opening in 45 days.
Per InterLive.it, Simone Inzaghi’s side have learned of Conte’s ‘clear objective’ in landing Thuram.
Inter were seemingly looking to agree a pre-contract agreement to sign the striker for free. However, it seems Tottenham are well advanced in closing on an agreement. Furthermore, they may even secure his signing in January if they can agree a fee with Gladbach.
The Bundesliga side have seemingly given up hope of persuading Thuram to sign a new deal. As a result, they will now reportedly listen to offers for the star in January.
Per reports, Spurs chairman Levy is right at the front of that queue. The north London side are reportedly offering Thuram a four-year deal reportedly €5m a year after tax.
That will amount to around £120,000 a week, or just north of £80,000 a week after tax.
Levy’s proposal seemingly puts Tottenham in the driving seat for Thuram’s signature. And the report concludes by admitting Inter face being ‘sensationally mocked’ in their efforts to sign him.
