Tottenham 1-0 Watford LIVE! Son goal - Premier League match stream, latest score and updates today
Spurs will look to head into the first international break of the season on the back of three straight Premier League wins as they host newly-promoted opposition today.
It has been an impressive start to life in north London for Nuno Espirito Santo despite the distracting Harry Kane transfer saga, with victories over Manchester City and former club Wolves as well as progress in the Europa Conference League.
Tottenham have of course been hugely boosted this week by the news that Harry Kane will be staying at the club after seemingly admitting defeat in his attempts to engineer a British record move to Manchester City.
Watford bounced back to the Premier League at the first time of asking last term and began 2021/22 with a hugely impressive win over big-spending Aston Villa at Vicarage Road before going down 2-0 at Brighton last time out and defeating Crystal Palace to reach the third round of the Carabao Cup.
Xisco’s team are likely to have their work cut out this afternoon as they seek a first away win at Tottenham for 36 years.

Full time
That’s that. Tottenham hold on to secure a scrappy win over Watford whose wait for a victory away to Spurs in the Premier League continues.
Son’s 200th Premier League game was marked with a goal that lacked intent but carried great importance - a direct free kick whipped in from the right that evaded everyone and found the back of the net.
Kane came close to scoring in his first start of the campaign and Alli too should have added to the scoreline.
Either way, Tottenham will end the weekend on top of the table as the only team with a perfect record.
Four minutes added
15:53 , Daniel Gallan
90mins: It’s four additional minutes. Can Tottenham hold on?
Son takes his leave
15:47 , Daniel Gallan
87mins: The goalscorer, and as it stands, the match winner, Son is replaced by youngster Bryan Gil, the 20-year-old making is Premier League debut.
Kane inches away
15:44 , Daniel Gallan
84mins: That’s two big chances for Kane.
The first was courtesy of a fantastic run down the right from Lucas Moura whose low cross took a slight deflection which meant Kane couldn’t make contact with it.
The resulting corner bobbled and bounced in the area until Kane lashed a volley. He hit it sweetly but it was within reach of Bachmann who once again keeps Watford in with a sniff of something.
Bachmann does well to keep his side in it
15:34 , Daniel Gallan
73mins: Højbjerg launches a hopeful direct free kick from distance that never gets above shin height, but it’s heading towards the bottom corner and Watford ‘keeper Bachmann has to be alert.
Good reprieve that for the Watford gloveman who has been sloppy with his distribution. A few of his gaffs might have ended up in Tottenham goals on another day.
Changes for both sides
15:30 , Daniel Gallan
70mins: Spurs have switched Lucas Moura for Bergwijn.
Watford have brought on Cleverly who replaces Sissoko. The home crowd give their old friend a polite round of applause as he takes his leave.
Alli narrowly misses
15:28 , Daniel Gallan
68mins: That really should be 2-0. Alli meets a perfectly weighted cutback from Kane but his first time shot skims to the left of the goal. Wonderful movement that deserved a goal.
Another change for Watford
15:26 , Daniel Gallan
65mins: Cucho Hernandez replaces Josh King.
Sissoko shoots for the stars (and almost finds them)
15:24 , Daniel Gallan
63mins: As Jack says, “This will have been a bizarre afternoon for Sissoko and while he’s been given a great reception by the Spurs fans on his Watford debut it’s been very on brand. A driving run was followed by a silly booking and he’s just had the home fans chanting his name loudly after finding the second tier of the stand behind the goal with a strike from range. Not what he would have hoped for so far.”
Alli in the book
15:21 , Daniel Gallan
62mins: That’s pretty cynical from Alli who rightly gets booked for cutting down Sarr. It’s 2-2 in terms of yellow cards now.
Son straight at the ‘keeper
15:19 , Daniel Gallan
60mins: That’s trademark Son. He collects on the left and with the dip of a shoulder looks to curl one in from distance. But it’s straight at Bachmann.
Watford looking stronger
15:18 , Daniel Gallan
58mins: Spurs have a chance from a Son corner but the Sanchez back-heel was never going to find the net.
But the visitors are giving a much better account of themselves. Good thing too. This game is starting to show signs of life.
Two chances for Watford
15:17 , Daniel Gallan
54mins: First Sarr loses Reguilon to meet a throw-in and he cuts a pulls the ball back to Kucka on the edge of the box.
Once it reaches Kucka the ball is a waist height and he gets under the strike which sails over.
Later Spurs old-biy Sissoko rushes into the final third and cuts a great ball back from the byline which falls for Sarr, but King gets in his way and he’s unable to connect properly with the strike, which Lloris gathers with ease.
Sissoko then picks up a card for a trip on Skipp.
Tough break for Watford
15:10 , Daniel Gallan
50mins: That’s not what manager Xisco would have wanted. Ngakia is on to replace the injured Cathcart.
Watford need to show more as second half begins
15:06 , Daniel Gallan
45mins: We’re back. Tottenham begin as they left in complete control of this match. Watford really do need to find another gear. Maybe another two, if they have any hope of leaving North London with a point or three.
Son enjoys playing against Watford as well as shooting from distance
14:53 , Daniel Gallan
6 - Son Heung-min has scored six goals in 10 Premier League appearances against Watford – only against Southampton (9) has he scored more in the competition. Delivered.
— OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) August 29, 2021
3 - Three of Son Heung-min's last four goals for Tottenham in all competitions have come from outside the box, as many as his previous 43 strikes for the club. Today's goal vs Watford was his first direct from a free-kick for Spurs. Range. #TOTWAT

Tottenham ahead at the break
14:51 , Daniel Gallan
Half-time: Tottenham 1-0 Watford
A direct free-kick from Heung-min Son was never intended to hit the back of the net directly, but that’s exactly what it did. And it marks the South Korean’s 200th Premier League game with a neat reward just before the break.
Harry Kane, making his first start of the season, picked up a yellow in the closing stages of the first period.
The home side dominated the ball but beyond the free-kick barely troubled the Watford goal. This could change things though as the Hornets will have to be brave search of an equaliser.
Jack from Tottenham Stadium
14:46 , Daniel Gallan
44mins: “Spurs get the breakthrough thanks to some clever thinking from Son and some truly atrocious goalkeeping from Bachmann. Spurs deserve to be ahead on the balance of play I think but Nuno will want to see more being created from open play.”
GOAL! Son straight from a free kick
14:44 , Daniel Gallan
GOAL!
43mins: Why mess about with passing and link up play when you can just hoof it in the net?
Not even Son will claim he meant that but his whipped free kick from out towards the left touchline bounces just and nestles into the far corner of the Watford goal.
Lucky, but they’ll take it!
It’s just not working for Tottenham
14:43 , Daniel Gallan
40mins: They’ve got all the ball but are struggling to do anything with it. Højbjerg is having a decent game and Tanganga, Alli and Bergwijn are getting themselves about. But it’s just not working.
Son drags his shot wide
14:37 , Daniel Gallan
32mins: Kane pings a ball towards Son but the South Korean has his back to goal. The ball is recycled with Alli getting involved. it’s not fluid but it breaks for Son who drops a shoulder and looks to curl into the far corner. Instead he goes near post but drags it wide.
A few minutes later Alli dribbles a daisy cutter towards Bachmann who makes a more than comfortable save.
Jack casts a critical eye at Tottenham
14:33 , Daniel Gallan
32mins: “Tottenham continue to be on top here after half an hour but not creating too many clear cut chances at the moment. Dier has sent a free-kick straight into the arms of the goalkeeper and a number of corners from the right hand side have come to nothing. Son not quite at his best so far.”
Ooof! Kane goes down as Etebo gets booked
14:32 , Daniel Gallan
30mins: Did Etebo slip there? Probably. Didn’t seem like there was a lot of malice in the challenge. Either way, it is late and did catch Kane from behind so a yellow card seems like the right call (just about).
Dier is entrusted with the free kick from a long way out. He hits it with his instep and it arcs comfortably into Bachmann’s arms.
Half an hour gone and Spurs need a lift. It’s looking a little easy for Watford at the back.
Watford dropping deeper
14:27 , Daniel Gallan
25mins: A pattern has emerged. Watford look content to sit 10-15 yards deeper and wait to pick Tottenham on the break. Spurs making all the play. Højbjerg could be key here. Should he advance to provide an extra body on attack or remain disciplined and not allow Watford to get behind when they win the ball?
Close. Scrappy, but close for Tottenham
14:23 , Daniel Gallan
20mins: Tanganga gets the final poke on it but Watford ‘keeper Bachmann reacts sharply to get down low and use his feet to keep it out.
Watford then break thanks to a bustling run from Dennis but it fizzles out.
Tottenham gathering steam
14:20 , Daniel Gallan
Tottenham starting to dominate after a bright start from Watford. Alli and Hojbjerg impressive from midfield so far. #thfc

Højbjerg getting about
14:19 , Daniel Gallan
17mins: The Dane is looking like the complete player. A lovely ball out to the left flank is pin-point and he’s bustling up field offering an extra attacking option. Definitely more than a holding midfielder.
Spurs finding their groove
14:16 , Daniel Gallan
13mins: Neat play in the midfield has the ball sent out towards the right where Tanganga does well to keep the ball in play. He stretches and hooks in a half decent cross which ends in Bergwijn volleying towards the goal. It’s deflected for a corner. Not bad.
Kane’s first attempt
14:11 , Daniel Gallan
9mins: That’s not like him. Normally he’s put his foot through that but he’s gone for a dink inside the box to the right of the goal. It drifts harmlessly over the bar.
Watford off to a solid start as Jack Rosser reports
14:09 , Daniel Gallan
7mins: “Watford have made a very bright start here. They were alert to forge a chance on the break in the opening minute and have been causing problems down the right with Sarr giving Reguilon a lot to think about already, that looks like it will be a good battle.”
Ismaila Sarr isn’t going anywhere unless the offer is “big"
14:08 , Daniel Gallan
Watford boss Xisco Munoz is adamant that his Senegalese winger isn’t going anywhere unless another club is willing to make a “big offer”.
Liverpool have reportedly shown interest but Munoz is having none of it: “It’s normal there are rumours about him, but if you are asking if I want him here and to stay at the club then yes because he’s so very good.”
We’re backing Spurs to win comfortably
13:39 , Daniel Gallan
Sorry to keep banging on about this, but Watford really don’t have a good record away to Spurs. With this in mind, and some other factors too such as tactics, players available, and all round quality (small details), we’ve gone with a 2-0 win for the home team.

No hard feelings as old friends unite

Spurs looking to maintain 100% record
12:58 , Daniel Gallan
As if there was any doubt as to how competitive this league is, Tottenham are the only side left with a 100% win record. A third win in a row will see Spurs end the weekend on top of the Premier League.
Watford out to rewrite history
12:47 , Daniel Gallan
The Hornets have never won a Premier League match away to Tottenham. In seven trips they’ve lost six and drawn just once. But that solitary point was earned at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in 2019 when an 86th minute Dele Alli goal denied Watford a famous win.
Tottenham vs Watford prediction
11:54 , George Flood
Spurs gave more of their first-team regulars a run out in Europe and showed far more cohesion because of it. The return of Kane is a huge boost, of course, and the hosts should have enough to beat the Hornets.
A third win on the bounce, heading into the international window, would be a dream start for Nuno Espirito Santo.
2-0.
