Five arrests were made following the ugly scenes that marred the Carabao Cup London derby between Tottenham and West Ham.

There were clashes between both sets of fans before Wednesday’s quarter-final tie, with several videos circulating of violence on the High Road outside the entrance to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Footage showed one man with blood running down his face and another appearing to be knocked unconscious.

Police with batons were forced to intervene and separate supporters.

The Metropolitan Police have since confirmed that five people were arrested after Wednesday’s game, which Tottenham won 2-1 thanks to first-half goals from Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura either side of a Jarrod Bowen effort to set up a two-legged semi-final against Chelsea next month.

A 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of invading the pitch, while a 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm.

Another 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and being in possession of a Class A drug while a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly.

A 22-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker. All five remain in custody at a north London police station.

Wednesday’s skirmishes were the latest between fans of fierce rivals Tottenham and West Ham, with clashes also taking place before the Premier League encounter at the London Stadium in October.
