Toulouse Olympique have released an official statement following Corey Norman’s season-ending eight-game ban.

Norman, 31, made the Super League switch mid-way through the season. He made 228 NRL appearances for Brisbane Broncos, Parramatta Eels and St. George Illawarra Dragons prior to announcing his ‘retirement’ from the sport in December last year.

The half-back was charged with a Grade F Other Contrary Behaviour following the club’s defeat to Warrington last Thursday. He was deemed to have made ‘inappropriate contact’ on opposition Oliver Holmes during the 32-18 defeat at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Toulouse said in a statement: “Corey Norman received an eight-game suspension and £500 fine on Tuesday August 16th.

“During the game that opposed the Warrington Wolves and Toulouse Olympique on August 11th, Corey was accused by one of his opponents of an inappropriate gesture. The RFL disciplinary committee classified this action as grade F for other contrary behaviour and sent the player to the RFL tribunal.

“Corey Norman pleaded not guilty, claiming unintentional hand positioning during the tackle.

“He was nevertheless found guilty in court for having “intentionally placed a hand between the buttocks of an opposing player”.

“No other charge has been brought against the player. The club would like to point out that it strongly condemns all types of sexual assault or inappropriate behaviour.

“Even if the sanction is heavy and ends the player’s season, Corey Norman and TO XIII have decided to accept it. The club will make no further comment.”
