Chelsea are baulking at the price of Enzo Fernandes while waiting in the wings for the winger who really wants to join Arsenal…

Here’s the latest update from Fabrizio Romano on Mykhaylo Mudryk, who has become an even hotter property after Arsenal struggled to break down a stubborn Newcastle side:

‘Chelsea are interested in Mudryk as revealed on Monday. He’s considered “perfect winger” for their project but nothing has changed, as of now #CFC Chelsea will only proceed if negotiation with Arsenal collapses. #AFC remain the priority for the player. Up to the clubs.’

As for the fee, Sky Sports reported on Tuesday that ‘there is growing optimism that Arsenal will agree a deal’ for Mudryk. Shakhtar want £85m for Mudryk (based on the Antony scale) but Arsenal are said to have offered £62m at the last count.

Chelsea are desperate to spend a big old pile of silly money in this window and here’s Fabrizio Romano with an update:

‘Enzo Fernández deal update. Chelsea and Benfica spent the whole night in negotiations — but there’s still no full agreement on key details, still waiting for Rui Costa’s green light

‘Talks will continue on Wednesday. The player wants the move, but he’s now waiting too.’

The fee looks set to be astronomical whatever the final figure, with Gary Neville tweeting: ‘Are Chelsea paying €127m for Enzo Fernandez? That’s one hell of a price. A very good player but bloody hell!’

The Daily Telegraph claim that actually, Chelsea ‘are in talks to sign Enzo Fernandez but remain reluctant to meet the €120 million (£105.8 million) release clause in the midfielder’s contract at Benfica’.

Man Utd will reportedly have to pay €70m to sign Randal Kolo Muani from Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt in January or the summer.

‘Manchester United have been linked with a number of strikers, and the latest is Randal Kolo Muani,’ Romano wrote for Caught Offside. ‘Still, in January it is more than difficult for any club – there is no intention from Eintracht Frankfurt to sell the player, and his price tag is around €70m.

‘I think Kolo Muani alongside Jonathan David is one to watch for the summer.’
