There has been a boost for Chelsea in their pursuit of Wesley Fofana amid plans for a fourth bid, with Leicester identifying a replacement, while Everton are leading the race for a Premier League striker – all in Friday’s transfer gossip.

CHELSEA TO UP WESLEY FOFANA OFFER AGAIN

Chelsea are about to make a fourth bid for Leicester City centre-back, Wesley Fofana, according to reports.

Most recently, Chelsea saw a £70million offer turned down by their fellow Premier League side. It was their third attempt to take the 21-year-old defender this summer.

There were some claims that Chelsea would then abandon their pursuit of the Leicester star, but it appears they remain in the hunt after all.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Chelsea are now preparing a new approach for Fofana – who is going to miss the game between the two clubs on Saturday.

It will be an increase on the £70million valuation, which could come closer to the fee that Leicester want.

And in a sign that the Foxes are bracing themselves for the departure of the former Saint-Etienne talent, the Telegraph has also named Leicester’s preferred replacement.

It is claimed that Brendan Rodgers’ side have their eyes on Borussia Dortmund centre-half, Manuel Akanji.

The Switzerland international – previously linked with Arsenal and Manchester United – could cost them a fraction of Fofana’s price at £20million. Hence, such a pursuit would fit in with their need to operate within a sustainable financial framework this summer.

It may even be possible for Leicester to take Akanji on loan, given the lack of time remaining in the transfer window.

That may soften the blow of losing Wesley Fofana, who could get the move to Chelsea that he has been desiring.

LAMPARD WINS OVER EVERTON STRIKER TARGET

Neal Maupay could complete a transfer from Brighton to Everton before the summer transfer window closes.

The French striker is wanted by three clubs in the Premier League; Everton have been competing with Fulham and Nottingham Forest for his signature.

According to The Athletic, it is Everton who look set to win the race. In fact, a conversation with Frank Lampard has helped convince the 26-year-old about a move to Merseyside.

For Everton to sign him, though, they will have to make an offer worth at least £14million. Brighton want to match their initial investment in Maupay with any transfer fee they are to receive.

But rival suitors, Fulham are yet to reach an agreement over his valuation. In contrast, Maupay does not approve of Nottingham Forest as his next destination, despite them bidding £15million (as have Italian side, Salernitana, who are albeit unable to afford his wages, it seems).

With that in mind, Everton could have a good chance of getting Maupay, which would be beneficial given their need for attacking reinforcements. They sold Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur earlier in the summer and Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been held back by injury issues.

Maupay has been a Premier League player for three full seasons now. Where he will spend the rest of this one remains to be seen. But it could well be with Everton.

MAN CITY TALENT WANTED IN GERMANY

Manchester City could receive a loan offer for young talent, Cole Palmer from Borussia Dortmund.

According to The Sun, the Bundesliga side are keen on taking Palmer for the 2022-23 season. Of course, they already did business with Manchester City earlier in the summer when selling Erling Haaland.

Dortmund – who will be in the same Champions League group as City – already have one notable English talent in midfield. Jude Bellingham has thrived for them since making the move to Germany.

Their plans for Palmer are less for the long-term, but just for the season ahead. Even so, The Sun claims City would likely reject them anyway.

Pep Guardiola does not want to deprive himself of the attacking midfielder, despite his need for further gametime to help his development.

Borussia Dortmund could test their resolve in the final few days of the transfer market.
