Transfer gossip: Liverpool to pay £52.5m for Bellingham alternative as Spurs eye Austrian boss
Liverpool are downbeat over their prospects of winning the race for Jude Bellingham so they will pay £52.5million for a midfielder they stalled on last summer…
LIVERPOOL TO SWOOP FOR LONG-TERM TARGET
The feeling around Merseyside a fortnight or so ago was hugely optimistic of Jude Bellingham choosing Liverpool this summer. But the mood seems to have lurched towards the far more pessimistic, with Fichajes saying the Reds are out of the running because they are not willing to meet the demands of Borussia Dortmund.
Talksport concurs and they claim Liverpool have put Matheus Nunes in their crosshairs instead, with ESPN reporting a growing confidence at Manchester City that Bellingham will choose them over his other options.
Nunes was linked with Liverpool last summer but the Reds dithered and Wolves nipped in instead. After watching him for a season at Molineux, the Merseysiders are in a more decisive mood and they are wiling to pay £52.5million for the midfielder – less than half the price Dortmund want for Bellingham.

CHELSEA EYE EX-MAN UTD MIDFIELDER
Chelsea are also in the market for a midfielder, despite reports that N’Golo Kante is set to sign a new two-year contract, much to Juventus’s dismay.
The Blues could be looking for a replacement for Mason Mount, who may be Liverpool bound if he maintains his refusal to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge before the summer.
Chelsea aren’t casting their net too far, with Fulham’s Andreas Pereira identified as a possible target. But ESPN says the former Manchester United playmaker is also attracting interest from Atletico Madrid and PSG.
SPURS TO SACK CONTE AFTER MAKING GLASNER APPROACH
At Tottenham, they are rather more preoccupied with their managerial situation. Antonio Conte, apparently, doesn’t expect to be sacked after begging to be at the weekend, but the Telegraph reckons the Italian could be out before the end of the week, with Ryan Mason placed in temporary charge once again until the end of the season.
Thoughts have long since turned to who might replace Conte and word in Germany says Oliver Glasner is one of the contenders.
Austrian coach Glasner guided Eintracht Frankfurt to Europa League glory last season and took them to the last 16 of the Champions League this term. Bild says Spurs have already been in touch to gauge the 48-year-old’s level of interest in moving to north London.
