Chelsea and Manchester United will be warned off key target Moises Caicedo as a result of upcoming talks, while West Ham are ready to invest in a Championship player in January – all in Sunday’s transfer gossip.

Brighton are ready to offer a new contract to Moises Caicedo after he became a target for the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United.

Caicedo was a shrewd signing for Brighton when they picked him up for £4.5million last year. He is now showing his potential, although he will have to do so under a new manager soon after Graham Potter recently left for Chelsea.

The Ecuador international has been identified as another talent who could make way from the Amex Stadium in the near future. Having previously been eyed by Manchester United, he was back on their radar this summer.

Now, Chelsea are also contenders for his signature due to the presence of Potter at Stamford Bridge. Elsewhere, there have been links with the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal.

But according to the Mirror, Brighton are hoping to fend them all off. Indeed, the Seagulls are set to begin talks to improve Caicedo’s contract, which is currently due to expire in 2025.

The 20-year-old can expect an increase on his wages, which are among the lowest in the first-team squad. In turn, his market value will also be protected.

And although Caicedo has opened the door to a transfer to Manchester United in the past, he now seems happy to commit to Brighton, thanks to the faith they showed in him originally.

Hence, any hopes the bigger clubs had of luring him away may be misplaced for the time being. But at his age, there are many years ahead in which he could make a big move. He certainly seems to have the potential for it.

West Ham’s defensive rebuild could continue with a raid for Sheffield United centre-back John Egan.

According to The Sun, West Ham are preparing a bid for Egan. It would be worth a figure in the region of £12million.

It is noted that David Moyes wanted to sign Egan in the summer. Although, Sheffield United’s unwillingness to sell meant they had to delay their plans.

West Ham did sign two central defenders in the summer, Nayef Aguerd and Thilo Kehrer. But they are still considering extra reinforcements in the position.

Hence, West Ham are ready to go back in for Egan. An option with experience, he will have turned 30 by the time they make their next move for him.

The Republic of Ireland international only has two years left on his contract at Bramall Lane. With that in mind, there is a chance he could end up back in the Premier League with West Ham if they make a move.

In turn, the Hammers could grant Craig Dawson an exit after he was looked at by other clubs in the summer.

Elsewhere in The Sun, another Premier League pursuit that could be resurrected is that of Wolves trying to sign Enzo Fernandez.

They wanted the Argentine midfielder earlier in the year from River Plate, but he went to Benfica instead.

That has not deterred Wolves in the long term, though. Indeed, they recently sent scouts to watch him playing for Benfica in the Champions League.

It may be hard for them to take Fernandez in January. But they are already laying the groundworks for a potential summer 2023 swoop.

They view the 21-year-old as someone who can help evolve their midfield, where veteran Joao Moutinho is still relied upon, for instance.

Contacts in Portugal may give them a chance of signing Fernandez. However, he is not part of the Gestifute agency that has helped them sign so many high-class players from the Primeira Liga.

Still, Fernandez could yet be one to keep an eye on.
