Pochettino: We want Mbappe to stay

21:11 , Matt Verri

Rumours continue to swirl over Kylian Mbappe’s future.

The Frenchman’s contract at PSG runs out at the end of the season, and there is no sign of him agreeing a new deal at the club. A move to Real Madrid still looks the most likely outcome.

Mbappe has said recently he will not leave PSG in January, but did not rule out leaving on a free transfer in the summer. His manager Mauricio Pochettino made it clear what the club wants.

“The club knows his situation, our wish is that he stays at the club for several years,” Pochettino said.

“We hope that Kylian continues to be just as efficient and that it’s a favourable outcome for everyone.”

It remains to be seen whether Gavi will sign a new contract at Barcelona, that would surely increase that release clause significantly, but for now Europe’s biggest clubs are monitoring the situation.

Gerrard: Villa should ‘always’ be active in transfer window

19:48 , Matt Verri

Steven Gerrard has revealed Aston Villa will be active in the January window, but they won’t just make signings for the sake of it.

Villa have been linked with Dwight McNeil among other players in recent weeks, and their manager had this to say about what the club will look to do in the coming weeks.

“A club like Aston Villa has always got to aim to be active in the transfer market,” Gerrard said.

“It’s a difficult window, but if opportunities come to strengthen, I’m sure we’ll get the support to do that.

“But at the same time, it’s not going to be wholesale, we’re not going to demand this, that and the other. But if there are opportunities to strengthen, I think any manager would say the same thing.”
