The transfer window is in full swing and Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham are all chasing major early signings this summer. Arsenal have had a club-record bid for Declan Rice rejected but are expected to return again, and have launched a new bid for Kai Havertz. Nicolas Jackson is set to undergo a Chelsea medical this week as he finalises a £30million move from Villarreal and the Blues have announced Christopher Nkunku’s £53m arrival. Tottenham could now face a battle with Arsenal over Harvey Barnes, though Leicester team-mate James Maddison is believed to want to join Spurs as they face struggles to land goalkeeper David Raya. PSG have started work on signing Harry Kane.

However, Heung-min Son is the latest player to attract big-money interest from Saudi Arabia, though he is not believed to be interested in that move. Why Arsenal want to sign Timber

18:00 , Alex Young

Arsenal would be pulling off a coup if they win the race to sign Jurrien Timber.

All of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Barcelona, Manchester City and Real Madrid, have courted the Ajax defender over the past two years.

Last summer, it was Manchester United who fought hardest to sign Timber when Erik ten Haag was keen to be reunited with a player he worked with at Ajax.

Timber was reluctant to make a move so soon before the World Cup and ending up staying at Ajax and signing a new contract.

But the 22-year-old Dutchman could be on the move this summer and Arsenal have kickstarted the bidding by having a £30million offer rejected. Ajax want closer to £50m.

Phillips to stay at Man City

Kalvin Phillips says he will reject offers to leave Manchester City this summer to give him one more year to make it under Pep Guardiola.

The £45million signing from Leeds only started two league games nut is ready to snub interest from the likes of West Ham to remain in Manchester.

Speaking after his impressive substitute cameo on Monday night, Phillips confirmed his transfer stance this summer: “My intention is to stay.

“We have just won the Treble, so there is no reason for me to leave other than if I am not playing [if that continues], I will obviously have to think about it.

“I cannot give it 12 months and say I am not playing so I am going to leave. As you have seen with many players at City, it can take quite a while to cement yourself into the team.

“I spoke to quite a few of the players about it -- Nathan Ake being one and Jack [Grealish] being another. They all said the same, they all said the first 12 months were the hardest of their City careers but after that it...it doesn’t become easy, but easier.”

Saha warns Man United over striker search

14:23 , Matt Verri

Louis Saha has warned Manchester United that signing Rasmus Hojland will not be enough this summer.

United have been linked with the Atalanta striker as an alternative to Harry Kane, but Saha believes that move would not be enough for his former club.

“Hojlund is very consistent, has a lot of experience for his age, is good technically and is very strong,” Saha told Compare.bet.

“He’s got it all. But obviously in order to go straight into that number nine position you will require someone who can hit the ground running and start performing immediately, and I’m not sure Hojlund is ready for that.

“So I think United would need to sign both Hojlund and someone like a Harry Kane or a Victor Osimhen. This would make Manchester United a real threat again, because on his own Hojlund isn’t going to change anything.”

However, Ajax are said to value Timber at £50m, with negotiations continuing and apparent optimism that a deal can be struck.

Manchester United and Liverpool have also been interested in the Dutch international, who the Daily Mail claim Arsenal see as following in the footsteps of Oleksandr Zinchenko.

By which they mean a very versatile player who can operate at full-back initially before filling in further forward in midfield.

Arsenal battle Tottenham for Harvey Barnes

Arsenal have reportedly joined Tottenham in the race to sign Harvey Barnes this summer.

The 25-year-old is thought to be a key early transfer target for new Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou, alongside his star team-mate from relegated Leicester, James Maddison.

But according to the Daily Mail, Arsenal also have interest in Barnes, along with fellow London rivals West Ham.

Reports last week claimed that Tottenham had seen a combined £50m bid for Barnes and Maddison snubbed by Leicester.

Arsenal need to increase Jurrien Timber bid

07:23 , George Flood

Ajax will not accept Arsenal’s opening offer for Jurrien Timber, reports say.

It was reported late last night that the Gunners had tabled an initial £30m bid for the Dutch defender, having already agreed personal terms.

But Ajax are thought to value Timber - who was initially expected to join Manchester United last summer after Erik ten Hag’s move from Amsterdam to Old Trafford - at approximately £50m, with his current contract due to expire in 2025.

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal’s initial offer is too low but talks will continue with Timber eager to move to the Emirates.

He apparently sits top of a wishlist of new defenders for Mikel Arteta, above Mo Simakan at RB Leipzig.

Man United get Osimhen encouragement

07:12 , George Flood

Manchester United may have been given some encouragement in a mixed update over Victor Osimhen.

Serie A’s top scorer is known to be among the alternative striker targets for Erik ten Hag, who seems to have admitted defeat in the club’s pursuit of Harry Kane.

Addressing Osimhen’s future again on Monday evening, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis insisted they have an agreement over a contract extension but insisted the player could still be sold for the right offer.

“I have said for a while that Osimhen has to stay. Then, if an offer came in that I could not refuse for the good of Napoli, then we would consider it, as is only natural,” he said, per Football Italia.

“We already talked to Osimhen before the Scudetto celebration, so we already have a basic agreement on a two-year extension of his contract. The other players, that is something we need to study with Rudi [Garcia], because I have for many years been convinced that pre-season training is fundamental.”

Arsenal look to have been handed another boost in their quest to sign Kai Havertz.

The Gunners are known to be extremely interested in raiding Stamford Bridge for the German forward, having already seen an opening bid rebuffed by Chelsea.

Arsenal do not want to meet the Blues’ current £70m valuation for Havertz, though seem hopeful that they can knock down the cost.

According to ESPN, Chelsea are now under pressure to lower their asking price after being told the player has no intention of extending his £220,000 per week contract that expires in 2025.

Arsenal are expected to make another bid for Havertz, with claims that personal terms will not be an issue.

Kai Havertz tipped to shine at Arsenal

Monday 19 June 2023 17:57 , Marc Mayo

Former Arsenal striker Jeremie Aliadiere believes Kai Havertz will be a big success for the club.

The Gunners want to sign the Chelsea striker, who is valued at £70m by the Blues and has agreed personal terms already for a move across the capital.

Some have questioned why Mikel Arteta is so keen on Havertz, given his fairly mediocre goal record for Chelsea, but Aliadiere is confident he’ll be a hit if the deal comes off.

“When you look at the way that Arsenal are playing, I’m not sure Arteta is looking for a typical striker who’s just focused on scoring goals,” Aliadiere told FourFourTwo.

“From the look of it, Gabriel Jesus and the way that the boys have been playing this season, you want someone who is involved in the play, can play in midfield rather than a Haaland-type striker who will just stay up front and get goals.

"I think Havertz will be a great addition to the squad. I believe that the reason we fell short at the end of last season is that we didn’t have enough depth in the squad.”

BREAKING: Bournemouth sack O’Neil in major shock

Monday 19 June 2023 12:43 , George Flood

Bournemouth have sacked head coach Gary O’Neil in a major shock despite easing to Premier League safety this season.

The Cherries say a new boss will be appointed imminently after Monday’s surprise decision that owner and chairman Bill Foley described as “difficult” but in the long-term interests of the club as they look to become top-flight regulars.

“Gary’s achievement last season is one I will always be grateful for,” Foley said in an official Bournemouth statement. “This has been a difficult decision, but it has been made with great consideration to best position ourselves ahead of the coming season.

“As a club, we have put plans in place for long-term success with improvements being made to infrastructure, most notably the development of a new state-of-the-art training facility and the ongoing discussions around upgrades to our stadium.

“We have also identified a number of significant targets in the transfer market this summer and believe this change in direction will provide us with the best platform from which to build.

“Gary will go on to have a long career as a head coach or manager, but we feel that, at this moment in time, a change is in the best interests of this football club. I would like to place on record my thanks to Gary and wish him all the best for the future.”
