Tottenham have reportedly made contact with Jesse Lingard as they seek to beat London rivals West Ham to his signature either this month or in the summer.
Spurs are also believed to be in talks with Wolves over a £20million deal for Adama Traore, with Antonio Conte making his transfer plans crystal clear to the club as they contend with Ajax interest in Steven Bergwijn.
On the other side of north London, Arsenal are pressing ahead with a £58m move for Fiorentina marksman Dusan Vlahovic, with Crystal Palace hoping to benefit from that deal by signing Eddie Nketiah.
Mikel Arteta is also said to be an admirer of Leicester star Youri Tielemans, while both Arsenal and Newcastle are being linked with former Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.
Jonathan David continues to be mentioned in connection with a switch to the Premier League and Chelsea are stepping up their attempts to recall Emerson Palmieri from Lyon, while Folarin Balogun is leaving Arsenal for Middlesbrough on loan.

17:51 , George Flood
Chelsea midfielder Lewis Baker could be about to revitalise his career in the Championship.
The Press Association report that play-off chasing Stoke are leading the race for the former England Under-21 midfielder, who could potentially leave Stamford Bridge on a free transfer this month.
Baker came off the bench in Chelsea’s 5-1 FA Cup win over non-league Chesterfield on Saturday - his first senior appearance for the club in a staggering eight years.
The 26-year-old is out of contract in the summer and has previously spent time out on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, MK Dons, Vitesse, Middlesbrough, Leeds, Reading, Fortuna Dusseldorf and Trabzonspor.
Wijnaldum ‘not interested’ in Newcastle return
17:37 , George Flood
Apologies to those Newcastle fans who were holding out hope regarding a January return for Georginio Wijnaldum.
Football Insider are now reporting that the former Liverpool midfielder is not interested in a switch back to St James’ Park this month.
There is plenty of Premier League interest in Wijnaldum, who has indicated his desire to return to the English top-flight after a disappointing spell following his summer move from Liverpool to Paris Saint-Germain.
Arsenal have also been credited with an interest in the Dutch international as they target midfield reinforcements.

West Ham still eyeing centre-back deal despite Zouma return
16:18 , George Flood
West Ham boss David Moyes says he’s still looking to add cover at centre-back this month despite Kurt Zouma‘s imminent return from injury, writes Jack Rosser.
The Hammers have been boosted by the news, revealed yesterday, that Zouma is set to return ahead of schedule from his hamstring injury sustained in early December against former club Chelsea.
It was expected that Zouma would be out until February, but the France international is now targeting a return against Manchester United next week.
Moyes, however, will also be without Angelo Ogbonna until the end of the season and is still on the hunt for a new face at the back.
“Kurt is doing well,” said Moyes. “I couldn’t give you an idea of exactly when he’s going to back but I have to say he is doing well and I am looking forward to getting him back shortly if I can.”

Conte makes Tottenham transfer recommendations
15:58 , George Flood
Tottenham head coach Antonio Conte has revealed he has made his recommendations to Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici for the January transfer window and says it is now down to the club to “take the best decisions”, writes Dan Kilpatrick.
Conte asked the club for two months to assess the level of his squad and says he had a “good meeting” with Levy, the Spurs chairman, and managing director Paratici.
Among the players who could leave Spurs this month are Steven Bergwijn and Tanguy Ndombele but Conte insisted he was counting on the Dutch forward, while refusing to publicly comment on Ndombele’s situation.
Conte placed the emphasis on Levy and Paratici to act on his recommendations in the market, saying the club would have “the last word” on transfers.
“We have spoken about the situation. It was a good meeting,” Conte said on Tuesday. “The owner [Levy] and Paratici started this season together.
“I arrived in the middle of the season and they know the situation much better than me. It was a good meeting to speak and tell them my thoughts after two months in Tottenham.”

Crystal Palace in Nketiah talks
15:17 , George Flood
Crystal Palace have entered talks to sign Eddie Nketiah, but any potential deal could hinge on whether Arsenal sign Dusan Vlahovic, writes Jack Rosser.
Nketiah is out of contract at Arsenal at the end of the season and looks set to leave Emirates Stadium after turning down a new deal.
Palace tried to sign Nketiah last summer but the deal collapsed and they instead moved to bring in Odsonne Edouard in a £15million transfer from Celtic.
Eagles manager Patrick Vieira wants to revisit a move for the England Under-21 international but his departure from Arsenal would leave the Gunners short of striking options.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been frozen out since being stripped of the captaincy last month and Alexandre Lacazette is out of contract in the summer. Mikel Arteta will only sanction a deal for Nketiah if he can bring someone else in.
Conte: Tottenham counting on Bergwijn
14:59 , George Flood
Antonio Conte has addressed those Steven Bergwijn to Ajax rumours at a press conference held before tomorrow’s Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Chelsea.
“Honestly, Bergwijn he knows very well what I think about him,” the Italian said. “I consider him a player that can play in all three roles. As a No9 and as a No10. For sure, in my period at Tottenham, he was injured for a long time but I showed him that when he’s in a good physical condition, I gave him a chance to show he’s a good player.
“For sure, Bergwijn is a Tottenham player and he’s very close to coming back. After the game against Chelsea, he can start having training sessions with us. I count on him. He’s a player with different characteristics to Sonny, Lucas and Harry. He’s very good 1v1, he’s a creative player that we don’t have in our squad.”
Arteta ‘admires’ Leicester star Tielemans
14:18 , George Flood
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is a fan of Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans, reports suggest.
The Gunners are hoping to bolster their midfield ranks this month with numbers depleted by Covid, injuries, AFCON absences and the departure of Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
On a recent appearance on The Gooner Talk podcast, CBS journalist Ben Jacobs said: “I do know that Arteta admires Tielemans, so it is just one to watch to see if it gathers pace over the coming two or three weeks.”
Jacobs also appeared to rule out a move to Anfield for the Belgian international, adding: “He was speculatively linked with Liverpool a few months back, and there’s no truth in that whatsoever.”
Marseille in talks with Arsenal over Kolasinac
14:09 , George Flood
Sead Kolasinac looks to be on his way out of Arsenal.
The Press Association report that Marseille are in talks over reuniting the Bosnian full-back with the likes of William Saliba and Matteo Guendouzi at the Stade Velodrome.
Kolasinac is out of contract at Arsenal at the end of the season and it is said that any exit from north London this month will be permanent.
Barcelona eye Neto replacement
13:35 , George Flood
Barcelona goalkeeper Neto is set to leave the club with a replacement already being eyed for the Blaugrana bench.
Rayo Vallecano’s Macedonian shot-stopper Stole Dimitrievski is the preferred candidate, as reported by Sport.
Neto has received offers from his native Brazil and is looking to leave after a stint as back-up to Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
Arsenal look for emergency loan deals amid midfield shortage
13:17 , George Flood
Arsenal will look to sign emergency loan players after Mikel Arteta’s squad was hit by injury and Covid issues.
Granit Xhaka tested positive ahead of the match at Nottingham Forest while Emile Smith Rowe and Takehiro Tomiyasu picked up injuries.
After Ainsley Maitland-Niles left for Roma, Albert Sambi Lokonga and young Charlie Patino are the only central midfielders fit.
In addition, Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey are at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Therefore The Sun report on plans to sign emergency cover on loan as soon as possible.
Aston Villa pushing for Randolph deal
13:05 , George Flood
Aston Villa have enquired about the availability of West Ham goalkeeper Darren Randolph, writes Jack Rosser.
Steven Gerrard is looking for cover for first-choice ‘keeper Emiliano Martinez and has identified Randolph as a target, with the 34-year-old having fallen down the pecking order since the arrival of Alphonse Areola at West Ham.
Areola, who signed on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, has played in the Europa League and domestic cup competitions, keeping six clean sheets, and is viewed as a long-term successor to Lukasz Fabianski.
West Ham also have a fourth senior ‘keeper, David Martin, on the books, meaning they would allow Randolph to make the switch to Villa Park.
Villa are backing Gerrard in the transfer market this month and have already completed the signing of former Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona on loan.
The Midlands club are also pressing ahead with a move for Everton full-back Lucas Dinge after West Ham deemed his current wages of up to £130,00 a week too high.
Tottenham demand higher fee for Bergwijn
12:33 , George Flood
Ajax are expected to return with an improved bid for Tottenham‘s Steven Bergwijn after seeing an opening offer of €18million (around £15m) rejected by the Premier League club, writes Dan Kilpatrick.
Spurs will consider offers for Bergwijn this month but want to recoup closer to the £27m they paid PSV Eindhoven for the winger two years ago.
Bergwijn, 24, was the first permanent signing of Jose Mourinho’s tenure in January 2020 but could be the first departure under Antonio Conte, if Ajax return with a sufficiently improved offer.
Bergwijn, who was born in Amsterdam, came through the ranks at Ajax before joining their rivals PSV in 2011, and is thought to be open to a return to the Eredivisie champions after two frustrating years in the Premier League.
Spurs, however, would be reluctant to allow Bergwijn to leave until they have signed a replacement, particularly with Heung-min Son currently sidelined with a hamstring injury until at least the end of the month.

Arsenal ready £58m Vlahovic swoop in bid to beat rivals
11:54 , George Flood
Standard Sport’s Jack Rosser has the very latest on Arsenal’s pursuit of Fiorentina marksman Dusan Vlahovic...
Arsenal are ready to press ahead with an ambitious move for Dusan Vlahovic.
The Gunners are working on deal worth around £58million to sign the Fiorentina forward, who has been one of the most prolific strikers in Europe this season. Tottenham are also interested in the 21-year-old Serbia international, but Arsenal are ready to intensify talks in a bid to lure him to Emirates Stadium.
Vlahovic has scored 23 goals in 29 appearances for Fiorentina this season. He is reported to be demanding wages of up to £300,000 a week and it remains to be seen whether he would accept a move to Arsenal given they face major competition for the in-form marksman.
Juventus and Manchester City have also been linked with Vlahovic, but Arsenal hope to convince him of the project Mikel Arteta is building at the club.

Tottenham in talks over £20m Traore deal
11:34 , George Flood
Tottenham are in talks with Wolves over a £20million deal for Adama Traore.
ESPN state that the club are confident of completing a deal for the winger, who could fit Antonio Conte’s system as a wing-back - much like Victor Moses did for his title-winning Chelsea team.
Standard Sport’s Dan Kilpatrick wrote yesterday that former Wolves full-back Matt Doherty could yet enter the negotiations as a player-plus-cash option.
Chelsea step up Emerson return talks
11:22 , George Flood
Chelsea are trying to negotiate a settlement to bring Emerson Palmieri back to the club this month, writes James Robson.
The Italy international is on a season-long loan at Lyon but the European champions hope to cut that deal short, with Thomas Tuchel fearing the season could be wrecked without reinforcements during the January transfer window.
The German is prioritising cover at left wing-back after Ben Chilwell was ruled out for the rest of the season with anterior cruciate ligament damage.
Recalling Emerson is his preferred option, despite interest in Everton’s Lucas Digne, who is now expected to complete a move to Aston Villa this month.
It could cost in the region of £3million to cancel Emerson’s contract with Lyon, but that would be significantly cheaper than bringing in a permanent signing, with prices in January traditionally inflated.

A long-term injury to Federico Chiesa has forced Juventus into the market for a replacement winger.
