Transfer news LIVE! Kounde to Chelsea FC; Mbappe to Real Madrid; Ronaldo medical; Man Utd, Arsenal, Spurs latest rumours
Transfer news LIVE!
Welcome to the most dramatic summer transfer window in history, with both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo on the move as speculation surrounds more of the top players in world football.
Messi leaving Barcelona for PSG looked like the story of the summer... but Ronaldo is rejoining Manchester United in a sensational deal.
Man City had looked favourites to sign Ronaldo from Juventus after Tottenham refused to entertain selling Harry Kane, but United have now confirmed a deal for their former No7 to return to Old Trafford.
The fun doesn’t stop there though, as another superstar - Kylian Mbappe - could also be on the move from PSG. Real Madrid have lodged a second bid, worth €170m, after the Parisians accused Real of an “illegal” approach... but if Real get their man, that could also see PSG turn to Erling Haaland, Richarlison or Gabriel Jesus. What a summer!
Chelsea have sold Kurt Zouma to West Ham and now want to move for Sevilla defender Jules Kounde but the Spanish club are standing firm on their valuation, while Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez could join on loan - though United are also reportedly interested. Tottenham, meanwhile, have signed Metz wonderkid Pape Sarr and are talking to Wolves about signing Adama Traore as they also target Barcelona’s Emerson Royal.
Arsenal have spent more than any other top European team, with the signings of Martin Odegaard and Aaron Ramsdale, while Liverpool have made a quiet transfer window and look to miss out on former targets Saul and Mbappe amid new contract plans for Mohamed Salah, with a move for Brighton’s Yves Bissouma seemingly not in the offing.
West Ham, meanwhile, are closing in on another signing in the shape of CSKA Moscow and Croatia star Nikola Vlasic, while Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi could join Dortmund on loan.

Maitland-Niles told he’s not going anywhere
19:34 , Daniel Gallan
Despite sending out a public plea on Instagram, Arsenal have told 24-year-old Ainsley Maitland-Niles that he’s staying put.
The England international, capped five times by Gareth Southgate, posted an audacious statement on his Instagram page:
““All I wanna do is go where I’m wanted and where I’m gonna play,” he wrote accompanied with three crying emojis.”
But Mikel Arteta has ignored Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ impassioned personal plea to resurrect his career away from north London.
As news of a potential switch to Everton gathered pace on Monday morning, Gunners supporters took to social media to express their disappointment at the prospect of their academy graduate leaving the club ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
But just a few hours later, having already indicated privately that Maitland-Niles could leave the Emirates, the versatile midfielder was told in an hastily-arranged face-to-face meeting that he was no longer allowed to go.

Daniel James close to permanent Leeds move
16:39 , Daniel Gallan
There was always going to be some reshuffling of the pack once Cristiano Ronaldo returned to Old Trafford. Add in the form of Mason Greenwood and the additional signing of Jadon Sancho and there doesn’t seem to be much room for young Daniel James.
As such, the Welsh winger is in talks with Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds, the same club he almost joined two years ago when he was still with Swansea, in the hope of more first team action.
The 23-year-old started in the 1-0 win over Wolves on Sunday but has been used sparingly by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
He has three years left to run on his deal in Manchester and the expectation is that they will ask for a fee in the region of £20m.
Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Nilespleads for a move on Instagram
15:46 , Daniel Gallan
As far as ‘come-and-get-me’ pleas go, this is certainly a memorable one.
Arsenal’s wantaway fullback is desperate for some regular first team action and has posted his intentions to his 455 thousand Instagram followers as well as his current employers (whom he tagged).
The 24-year-old is a product of the Arsenal youth system but has recently returned from a loan spell with Ipswich. Now back in North London, the five-times capped England international is keen on another move.
Everton try to seal Maitland-Niles switch
13:56 , Marco Giacomelli
Ainsley Maitland-Niles made his first Premier League appearance of the season on Saturday in the 5-0 rout by Manchester City, but could now be about to leave Arsenal.
Everton are trying to tie up a deal for the 24-year-old midfielder, which could be an initial loan with an option to buy.
Maitland-Niles, who came through the Arsenal academy, won the last of his five England caps in November 2020 and spent part of last season on loan at West Brom.
Mbappe repeats that he won’t extend PSG deal
12:14 , Marco Giacomelli
Kylian Mbappe has reiterated to Paris Saint-Germain that he plans to leave on a free next summer if he does not join Real Madrid in this window, reports Marca.
Real have bid 180m euros for the forward and although Mbappe wants the move he will not try to force it through this month.
Should he stay, PSG hope to persuade him to sign a new contract but Marca says that will not work as the World Cup winner will run down the final year of that deal.
Mbappe is due to meet up with the France squad later today ahead of their World Cup qualifiers, and Real fear it will be difficult to do a deal once that happens.
Despite the tug-of-war over his future, the 22-year-old played for PSG last night, scoring both goals in their 2-0 win over Reims.
Dias extends City deal until 2027
11:09 , Marco Giacomelli
Ruben Dias has signed a new deal with Manchester City until the summer of 2027, just a year after arriving at the Etihad.
The 25-year-old defender shone following his £50million move from Benfica last summer, helping City win the Premier League.
He has his sights set on more glory and said: "The club want to be the best and that is an ambition I love and want to be a part of.”
Sevilla playing hardball with Chelsea over Kounde
10:28 , Marco Giacomelli
The closing stages of the transfer window are set to be a battle of wills between Sevilla and Chelsea with the Spanish side reportedly sticking to their guns over Jules Kounde.
The France centre-half has a £68million release clause and although Sevilla accept the Blues may not meet that, they expect something close to it.
Chelsea have been looking for a deal at around £43m but, according to Mundo Deportivo, that is a non-starter.
And with the Blues having brought in £29.8m by selling Kurt Zouma to West Ham, it further strengthens Sevilla’s belief they will not sell the 22-year-old at a cut price.
Fulham’s Zambo Anguissa having Napoli medical
09:45 , Marco Giacomelli
Fulham’s Andre Zambo Anguissa is undergoing a medical today at Napoli, according to Sky Sport Italia.
It reports that the agreement is for the 25-year-old defensive midfielder to join on loan with an option to buy for £8.5m.
Zambo Anguissa moved to Fulham in 2018 and although he has played three Championship games this season he was an unused substitute in the 3-0 win over Stoke on Saturday.
Tammy’s first strike for Roma
07:29 , Marco Giacomelli
Tammy Abraham got off the mark for Roma in just his second Serie A game since joining from Chelsea for £34m.
The striker finished emphatically from the edge of the box as Jose Mourinho’s side cruised to a 4-0 win at Salernitana last night.
Messi’s calming influence
07:21 , Marco Giacomelli
Just two days left of a stunning transfer window.
After all the frenzy surrounding Lionel Messi’s move to Paris Saint-Germain, he finally made his debut last night…and brought an air of calmness to the side, said boss Mauricio Pochettino.
PSG won 2-0 at Reims and they had already scored both those goals by the time the Argentina superstar was brought on in the 66th minute.
But Pochettino believes Messi’s presence had an impact, and said: "I felt it as soon as he came on to the field and his first touches of the ball.
"He brought a calmness to the team. It’s very important to get off to a good start, even for him.
"He was happy and he is well integrated into the group. It was a question of common sense to give him his debut."
Both goals came from Kylian Mbappe although whether he will still be a PSG player by the time the window shuts is debatable with Real Madrid hot on his tail . . .

The 22-year-old centre-back has a £68million release clause but, after spending £97.5m on Romelu Lukaku, Chelsea hope to negotiate the fee down to about £43m.
Real Madrid to wait on Mbappe
Sunday 29 August 2021 21:34 , Alex Young
Real Madrid could be about to exercise some patience in their high-profile pursuit of PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe.
According to Sky Sports, there have been positive talks between the two clubs following a second bid from the LaLiga giants worth £145.6m.
However, it is now suggested that Madrid could now wait until January to talk to Mbappe, when the French forward would be free to sign a pre-contract agreement as his current deal at PSG expires next summer.
Either way, the speculation surrounding him doesn’t seem to have affected Mbappe - who has tonight scored for PSG.

Sunday 29 August 2021 15:43 , George Flood
Talks are progressing over a move that would see Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi join Borussia Dortmund before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
Standard Sport understands that discussions are moving well regarding a deal for the Blues winger to head to the Bundesliga on a season-long loan.
The clubs remain in dialogue over what percentage of Hudson-Odoi’s wages will be paid by Dortmund and the size of the fee paid to Chelsea.
The 20-year-old initially wanted to stay and fight for his place at Stamford Bridge this summer, but has seen first-team opportunities notably limited, with Hudson-Odoi having only featured in the Uefa Super Cup win over Villarreal in Belfast so far this term.

Haaland does it again

Most people seem to have forgotten about Erling Haaland this summer, but he's still doing what he does best - scoring goals.
Haaland fired a stoppage-time winner to give Dortmund a thrilling 3-2 win over Hoffenheim tonight to send BVB top of the Bundesliga standings.

— Borussia Dortmund (@BlackYellow) August 27, 2021
Dortmund withstood a barrage of crosses early in the second half before mounting an attack down the left that ended with Gio Reyna firing home the opening goal with a bouncing shot to Baumann's left.
Hoffenheim kept up the pressure and drew level in the 61st minute through Christoph Baumgartner, though Dortmund went ahead again eight minutes later as Jude Bellingham controlled a loose clearance on his thigh just inside the box before lashing the ball into the bottom left-hand corner to make it 2-1.
Munas Dabbur thought he had snatched a point for Hoffenheim with a goal in the final minute of normal time, but Haaland smashed a loose ball into the top corner a minute later to send the home crowd into raptures.
Neville hails ‘fantastic’ Ronaldo deal
Friday 27 August 2021 20:44 , Tom Doyle
Speaking to Sky Sports, Gary Neville says of Cristiano Ronaldo’s Manchester United return: “It’s fantastic news. A little bit nostalgic and nostalgia doesn’t always work in football, it kicks you sometimes when you don’t expect it.
“The idea of him going to City was torture for United fans. If there is a big player available United have to be in the market for that player.
“What they’ve done is bolster the squad with a proven goalscorer, a club legend. He will score goals and give them brilliant moments.
“It will give the club an incredible 12 months and United fans are going to be absolutely rocking to see one of their own come back and play.”
He added: “This could give them a temporary shot in the arm that would potentially get them right up there this year.
“This news gives me more hope that United could have a great season because this is one of the most special players who has ever played the game of football.

Real Madrid remain the overwhelming favourites to land Mbappe - either this summer for a huge fee, or next year on a free - while PSG are reportedly sounding out Haaland about replacing Mbappe in Paris.
There could be plenty of drama left in this transfer window yet, and we’re ready for it.
Fernandes’ emotional Ronaldo post
Friday 27 August 2021 19:00 , Tom Doyle
Bruno Fernandes has welcomed Cristiano Ronaldo back to Manchester United with open arms.
Fernandes has previously described Ronaldo as his “favourite player” growing up, recalling watching as a nine-year-old as Ronaldo and Portugal reached the Euro 2004 final on home soil, with a young Ronaldo’s tears following that defeat to Greece sticking in the memory.
The pair have played together at national level for Portugal, but they will now be team-mates at club level as well - and Fernandes seems delighted by the prospect of regularly featuring alongside one of his childhood heroes.
Fernandes posted a drawing of what appears to be a young version of himself wearing a Manchester United shirt with ‘Ronaldo 7’ on the back, watching a TV set on which Ronaldo takes his trademark stance for a free-kick.
A poster of Ronaldo adorns the wall, with the badges of Boavista - the club where he came through as a young player - and Portugal stuck to a dresser, along with a Boavista shirt on a chair nearby.
Fernandes’ accompanying caption reads: “Never stop dreaming. Welcome back home Cristiano” - and the midfielder has also thrown in a goat emoji to let the world know where his loyalties lie in the GOAT debate between Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

“The ‘tiffosi bianconeri’ always respected me and I tried to thank that respect by fighting for them in every game, every season, every competition. In the end, we can all look back and realize that we achieved great things, not all that we wanted, but still, we wrote a pretty beautiful story together.
“I will always be one of you. You are now part of my history, as I feel that I’m part of yours. Italy, Juve, Turin, tiffosi bianconeri, you’ll always be in my heart.”
