Transfer news LIVE! Mbappe to Real Madrid; Kane, Ronaldo, Saul latest; Chelsea, Man Utd, Arsenal rumours today

Transfer news LIVE!

Two potentially huge stories are developing in the final week of the summer window concerning the futures of Kylian Mbappe and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Real Madrid have made their first move for the PSG star - which has been rejected after the Parisians accused Real of an “illegal” approach - while Ronaldo is reportedly attempting to engineer a move to Manchester City.

What does this mean for Harry Kane? Man City were expected to push to seal a British-record deal before the August 31 deadline, but the England captain has now confirmed he will be staying at Tottenham this year. Spurs, meanwhile, are closing in on the signing of Metz wonderkid Pape Matar Sarr and want Wolves star Adama Traore as well as potentially moving for Lyon playmaker Houssem Aouar.

Chelsea are not done either as they look to step up their interest in Sevilla defender Jules Kounde and Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez. The latter could be a loan deal, but Manchester United are also reportedly interested.

Arsenal have spent more than any other top European team, with the signings of Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid and Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, and are now finally starting to clear the decks with Willian heading for the exit door... and could captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang be next to leave?

Liverpool have also been linked with the likes of Saul and Mbappe amid new contract plans for Mohamed Salah, while West Ham may have fresh hope as they pursue Jesse Lingard and a move for Chelsea’s Kurt Zouma.

Kounde blow for Chelsea

07:43 , Alex Young

Chelsea have stepped up their interest in Jules Kounde as Sevilla confirmed they rejected an offer for the defender.

"It is true that there was an offer for Kounde that we turned down," club president Jose Castro explained to reporters on Wednesday.

"Right now there is no concrete offer for the player. If it comes, we will look at it as we always have done. If we have to [sell], we will do, as long as those resources can be re-invested in the club to keep improving and expand our trophy cabinet.

"While the market is open, anything can happen. We have players who could leave. Anything can happen this time of year until the 31st. It is a window where there have been few moves in most clubs, but not in ours.

"Sevilla do not need to sell any player. We will sell if it suits us with an above-market bid which allows us to keep strengthening the team and achieving big things on the sporting side. That is what we have always done, we have not changed there."

Kane wants £400k a week

07:34 , Alex Young

Now Harry Kane has decided to stay at Tottenham, he wants to be rewarded with his commitment to become one of the highest-paid players in the Premier League.

The Times report that Kane is looking for around £400,000 a week - which would take him above David de Gea and Kevin de Bruyne as the highest-paid player in the league.

However, Spurs are hoping to make the deal heavily incentivised by bonuses, so Kane is not guaranteed that sum but is capable of reaching it with goals and other on-pitch contributions.

The Times add that Kane’s rough salary was upped to around £300,000 a week last summer when he first asked to leave.

Chief football correspondent Dan Kilpatrick writes: “Kane was desperate to force his way out of his boyhood to join Manchester City but Daniel Levy, the Spurs chairman, was determined not to sell the 28-year-old, who has three years remaining on the six-year deal he signed in 2018.

“Spurs rejected at least one bid for Kane from City, worth around £100million, and are thought to have made it clear to the Abu Dhabi-backed club that their talisman was not for sale.

“Kane was frustrated at Levy's stance, believing he had a gentleman's agreement with the chairman to allow him to leave this summer, but has now accepted remaining in north London for at least another year.”

West Ham optimistic over Zouma as Chelsea plot Kounde bid

10:24 , George Flood

Dan Kilpatrick also has the latest on West Ham’s pursuit of Kurt Zouma, with Chelsea hoping to offload the Frenchman and move for compatriot Jules Kounde...

West Ham are continuing talks to sign Chelsea centre-back Kurt Zouma.

Discussions between the London clubs are progressing over a deal worth in the region of £25million, which would pave the way for Chelsea to move for Sevilla's Jules Kounde.

Zouma, who has not featured in either of Chelsea's first two games of the season, is understood to want an increase in wages to over £100,000-a-week, although there is optimism that personal terms can be agreed.

West Ham manager David Moyes is desperate to bolster his squad with new signings before the end of the month and has made a centre-half a priority, with the club having also targeted Fiorentina's Nikola Milenkovic and Marseille's Duje Caleta-Car.

Mbappe exit to pave way for Messi/Ronaldo link-up?

09:58 , George Flood

Here’s the latest from Standard Sport’s chief football correspondent Dan Kilpatrick on Real Madrid’s move for Kylian Mbappe...

Real Madrid have made a stunning move to sign Paris Saint-Germain‘s Kylian Mbappe, raising the mouthwatering possibility of Cristiano Ronaldo joining Lionel Messi at the French club.

Reports in France claimed PSG had rejected Real’s opening bid of €160million (£137m) for Mbappe, who has one year remaining on his contract and has been reluctant to agree a new deal.

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has said they are confident of keeping Mbappe, although even the Qatari-backed club would be hard-pressed to reject an improved bid for a player who could leave for free next summer – particularly after agreeing to cover Messi’s enormous wages.

Mbappe’s departure could pave the way for PSG to make a stunning move for Ronaldo, 36, who is angling to leave Juventus before the end of the month.

Signing the Portuguese following the capture of his long-time rival Messi would see the two greatest players of the last two decades united.

PSG eye Richarlison as Mbappe replacement

09:23 , George Flood

Real Madrid’s pursuit of Kylian Mbappe could have sizable repercussions for Everton, meanwhile.

That is because French outlet RMC Sport have claimed that Paris Saint-Germain would line up a late move for Toffees star Richarlison if they were to reluctantly sell superstar Mbappe before the deadline.

Losing the Brazilian Olympic gold medallist would be a devastating blow to Everton and Rafael Benitez, who would be left with preciously little time to attempt to source an adequate replacement.

Romano says that an agreement over personal terms between the Blues and Kounde has been in place for weeks now.

That figure is out of Arsenal’s reach, especially for a player of Trippier’s age.

Well, at the moment, nothing.

The Sun report that Harry Kane has reiterated to Tottenham his desire to join Manchester City and the club are still reportedly set to launch a final bid to sign the striker.

When, and if, that offer comes and if it will be accepted is another matter. Spurs want £150m and City do not want to go above £125m.

It’s looking unlikely to come off at the moment.

Right then.

It has been confirmed by multiple sources that Real Madrid have submitted an opening €160m (£137) offer to sign Kylian Mbappe.

The Spanish giants are optimistic about securing Mbappe’s signature before the transfer window closes as the player has just a year left on his contract at PSG and will not be signing a new one.

It was initially reported that PSG rejected the bid and will continue to do so to any future bids.

However, later reports suggested that PSG had no responded to the bid - raising suggestions that they could be persuaded into a sale.

No doubt more will happen today.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has issued another late update on the Kylian Mbappe situation, confirming there are no English clubs in the race for the Frenchman as things stand.

The report claims Mbappe has his heart set on joining Real and will not sign a new contract at PSG if they refuse to sell him this summer, paving the way for a free transfer next year.

Should PSG sell up?

Tuesday 24 August 2021 21:18 , Malik Ouzia

Numerous outlets, both in France and the UK, are now carrying reports of that bid for Kylian Mbappe.

That is a heck of a lot of money for a player who is due to be available on a free transfer a year from now and has so far shown a reluctance to sign a new contract at PSG.

Well this could be huge.

Sky Sports are reporting that Real Madrid have made their first bid to sign PSG star Kylian Mbappe.

United Saul move depends on sale

Tuesday 24 August 2021 20:04 , Malik Ouzia

The Mail say that Manchester United will only move for Saul Niguez if they sell another midfielder before the end of the window.

Despite having long been linked with the Atletico star, United are well-stocked in the position with the likes of Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Fred and Scott McTominay all having featured in the opening two league games this season, while Donny van de Beek remains on the books as well.

More on that Ronaldo story...

Tuesday 24 August 2021 19:11 , Malik Ouzia

The L’Equipe report claims that Ronaldo has instructed his entourage to begin negotiations with Manchester City in the belief that a deal could even be done by the weekend.

However, things are likely to prove far more complicated than that given his astronomical wages, with City still working to clear out one or two players such as Bernardo Silva and Aymeric Laporte.

Tuesday 24 August 2021 18:20 , Malik Ouzia

A potentially huge story being reported by French outlet L’Equipe this evening.

They claim that Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo sees Manchester City as one of the few potential landing spots for him and is attempting to engineer a move to the Etihad in the final days of the transfer window.

City’s focus has obviously been on bringing in Harry Kane - but could this throw a curveball into the mix?

Sky Sports are now reporting that Tottenham have agreed a deal to sign Pape Matar Sarr from French side Metz.

They say the teenager is having a medical as we speak but will return to the Ligue 1 club on loan for the rest of this season before joining Spurs next summer.

West Ham eye Vlasic as Lingard alternative

Tuesday 24 August 2021 16:39 , George Flood

West Ham are interested in a deal for ex-Everton forward Nikola Vlasic, reports suggest.

According to The Telegraph, the Hammers are looking at the CSKA Moscow and Croatia star as a potential alternative in the event that they are unable to secure the return of popular former loanee Jesse Lingard from Manchester United before next week’s transfer deadline.

Vlasic, 23, has quickly re-established his reputation in Russia after a difficult stint at Everton in which he made just 19 senior appearances.

Done deal! Chelsea sell Zappacosta

Tuesday 24 August 2021 16:19 , Tom Doyle

Chelsea are experts at selling fringe players, and the club has confirmed that Davide Zappacosta has joined Atalanta on a permanent transfer.

Zappacosta spent last season on loan at Genoa, and has moved on given Cesar Azpilicueta and Reece James are ahead of him at right-back in the Chelsea squad.

Done deal for Real Madrid!

Man Utd join Saul race (again)

Tuesday 24 August 2021 12:53 , Tom Doyle

Not a transfer window goes by without Manchester United being linked with Saul Niguez.

You’d have thought that were there any serious truth to their interest, Saul would already be in Manchester after being linked with a move for the past three years... but could it finally happen this summer?

 (AFP via Getty Images)
(AFP via Getty Images)

The Guardian reports that United remain in the hunt for Saul, who could surprisingly be available on loan from Atletico Madrid. Chelsea want another midfielder, and an inexpensive temporary deal for a quality player like Saul would make sense - and it would for United.

This may all be a case of Atletico trying to drum up interest and spark an actual bidding war for a genuine transfer, but Saul could well be playing Premier League football in September.

Saints snap up Small on three-year deal

Tuesday 24 August 2021 12:26 , George Flood

News of an encouraging signing at Southampton.

The Saints have snapped up highly-rated 17-year-old left-back Thierry Small, who recently rejected full-time terms at Everton after previously becoming their youngest ever senior player in an FA Cup tie against Sheffield Wednesday.

The teenager has signed a three-year professional contract at St Mary’s.

“I am very pleased we have been able to bring in another talented young player, especially when there were again a number of clubs who were interested,” Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl said.

“I think our philosophy of how we develop these young players and give them their opportunities has been an important factor in this, and we are looking forward to working with Thierry and helping him make the most of his potential.

“We have already signed a player this summer with good experience at left-back in Romain Perraud, and Thierry’s arrival now gives us a very good balance and a strong additional option in that position, and this is encouraging that we now have this on both sides of our defence.”

Spurs target McKennie loan

Tuesday 24 August 2021 10:39 , George Flood

Tottenham look set to be busy during the final week of the window.

As well as pushing to sign the likes of Adama Traore and Pape Matar Sarr, reports suggest they are also on the trail of Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie.

Calciomercato in Italy report that Tottenham want to sign the American international - a player that managing director Fabio Paratici obviously knows well from his time in Turin.

However, Spurs’ desire to only loan McKennie initially is said to be a significant hurdle to any potential deal.

SEVEN players to leave Arsenal before deadline?

Tuesday 24 August 2021 09:30 , George Flood

Here’s more from Standard Sport’s Jack Rosser and Simon Collings on a potential late transfer window exodus at Arsenal...

Both Arsenal and Willian are now prepared to part ways, despite the winger having two years left to run on his current contract.

Corinthians are in talks over a deal for the 33-year-old that would see him move back to Brazil on another free transfer.

Arsenal would be willing to let Willian go for nothing as it means they can clear his wages, worth in excess of £100,000-a-week, off their books.

Talks with Corinthians are at an advanced stage and there is optimism a deal will be done before the transfer window shuts.

Midfielder Torreira is another player who could leave Arsenal over the coming days, with Fiorentina keen to sign him on loan with a view to a possible permanent move next summer.

Nketiah has been tracked by Crystal Palace, while it is thought clubs will make late moves for Maitland-Niles and Nelson.

Kolasinac is another player Arsenal would be happy to offload, but his £100,000-a-week wages could prove a stumbling block.

Fellow full-back Bellerin could also depart, but Arsenal would prefer a permanent sale as opposed to a loan move.

Departures could allow Arsenal to bring in further signings, with right-back one area the club would like to strengthen if possible. Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier is a mooted target if funds allow.

Willian to spark Arsenal exodus?

Tuesday 24 August 2021 09:13 , George Flood

Willian is closing in on a move to Corinthians as Arsenal look to offload players before the transfer window shuts next week, Jack Rosser and Simon Collings report.

The Gunners have already spent over £120m on new players this summer, with their only significant sale being the departure of Joe Willock to Newcastle for over £20m.

Arsenal are keen to trim their squad further before next week’s deadline and Willian is one of those who can leave.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Eddie Nketiah, Hector Bellerin, Lucas Torreira, Reiss Nelson and Sead Kolasinac could follow Willian out the door.

Nuno Espirito Santo is keen to reunite with the Spanish winger in north London, with Spurs eager to loan Traore with a view to a permanent deal worth around £40m next summer.

The 25-year-old - who impressed in Tottenham’s 1-0 win at Molineux in the Premier League on Sunday - has only two years left to run on his current contract at Wolves and has yet to agree terms for an extension, despite being in discussions for more than a year.

Per The Times, a loan approach from Spurs including £5m up front and a view to a future sale has now been rejected by Wolves, who want a guaranteed sale.

Both Arsenal and Willian are now prepared to part ways, despite the winger having two years to run on his current contract.

Corinthians are in talks over a deal for the 33-year-old that would see him move back to Brazil on a free transfer.

Arsenal would be willing to let Willian go for free as it means they can get his wages, which are north of £100,000-a-week, off their books.

Talks with Corinthians are at an advanced stage and there is optimism a deal will be done before the transfer window slams shut on August 31.

Willian had been keen to leave Arsenal and stay in Europe, but is understood he is open to returning to Brazil.
