West Ham manager David Moyes is considering a move for Burnley forward Maxwel Cornet following his relegation from the Premier League at the weekend.

Cornet, 25, scored nine goals this season but could not prevent his club from dropping into the Championship, which triggers a £17.5 million relegation clause which has been looked at by West Ham and Everton.

Telegraph Sport revealed this month that Moyes is moving for Rennes centre-back Nayef Aguerd, but he also wants to strengthen his attack and has a shortlist of players to focus on.

Watford striker Emmanuel Dennis is another player under consideration after his club, like Cornet’s, finished in the bottom three. Dennis, 24, scored 10 goals in his first campaign in English football and there is interest in keeping him in the top flight.

Cornet will still earn Burnley a profit on the £12.85m paid to Lyon last summer when the club took a change in direction in the type of player they wanted to target at Turf Moor.

His fee is considered relatively low for a player who settled quickly into the Premier League and also had a spell of the season with Ivory Coast at the African Cup of Nations. Everton will need reinforcements should they lose any forwards this summer.

Hasenhuttl keen on Fredericks

Southampton are in the race for West Ham full-back Ryan Fredericks on a free transfer.

The 29 year-old is out of contract this summer and can move without a fee, with Ralph Hasenhuttl needing to strengthen his full-back areas following Tino Livramento’s serious knee injury.

Fredericks plays at right-back, where Kyle Walker-Peters is established, but can also switch flanks. Walker-Peters’ form at left-back last season eventually earned him an England call-up.

Fulham showed initial interest in Fredericks, who was at Craven Cottage until 2018 when he moved across London.

Wolves make contact with Sporting over Palhinha

Wolves have made an approach to Sporting CP to sign Portugal midfielder Joao Palhinha.

Palhinha, 26, has been a long-term target for Bruno Lage, who wants to strengthen his midfield for next season, and talks have been over a fee.

Bassey draws admiring glances from Premier League

Rangers defender Calvin Bassey has sparked interest from several Premier League clubs after helping his club reach the Europa League final.

The former Leicester City academy product, 22, is scheduled for international duty with Nigeria next week so any deal is not imminent, but bids are expected later in the summer.
