Travis Browne Steps in on Short-Notice for Fabricio Werdum Rematch at UFC 203

Travis Browne has agreed to step in on short notice to face Fabricio Werdum in the UFC 203: Miocic vs. Overeem co-main event on Sept. 10 in Cleveland. UFC officials announced the move on Friday.

Werdum (20-6-1) was originally slated to fight Ben Rothwell, but the No. 5 ranked UFC heavyweight had to withdraw from the fight after suffering a knee injury.

Having won the interim championship in November of 2014 by defeating Mark Hunt, and then beating Cain Velasquez to unify the belts in June of 2015, Werdum lost the belt at UFC 198. Miocic knocked Werdum out with a single punch on May 14, ending the former champion’s six-fight winning streak.

He'll now look to get back on track by fighting a familiar face. The two first fought at UFC on FOX 11, where Werdum won via unanimous decision. The victory earned him the right to face Hunt for the interim belt, and he took full advantage.

Browne (18-4-1) has since alternated between wins and losses. He enters the rematch coming off of a TKO stoppage loss to Velasquez at UFC 200 in July.

The UFC 203 main event features heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic putting his belt on the line for the first time against Alistair Overeem.
