Trent Alexander-Arnold latest as Real Madrid position emerges after Liverpool contract offer
Real Madrid remains confident it can lure Trent Alexander-Arnold to the Spanish capital next season.
According to reports from Spain, the reigning European champions are not worried about the news Liverpool has offered the 26-year-old a new deal, with Real Madrid confident in bringing Alexander-Arnold to the Bernabeu. Spanish outlet Cadena SER report Real Madrid are optimistic about signing Alexander-Arnold, with whom they can negotiate with next month should he not sign a new deal at Anfield.
Carlo Ancelotti's side are on the lookout for a long-term successor to Dani Carvajal, who suffered an ACL injury earlier this season which has ruled him out of the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign.
Carvajal will enter next season at 33-years-old coming off the back of a major injury, something which will likely concern Real Madrid about the longevity of his career post torn ACL. This term in his absence, it has utilised Federico Valverde and Lucas Vazquez as a replacement for Carvajal.
Meanwhile, it remains unclear whether or not Alexander-Arnold will sign a new deal to stay at Anfield. Reports last week emerged confirming Liverpool had offered the England international a new deal, alongside fellow out-of-contract teammates Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.
While Salah has publicly confirmed his frustration at not having been handed a new contract prior to Liverpool's recent offer, Alexander-Arnold has been tight lipped on his future.
Speaking about his future earlier this year, Alexander-Arnold stressed the most important thing for him is winning trophies. "The most important thing is always trophies. I want to win trophies," said Alexander-Arnold.
"We were close to the title last season and we got a cup. The [quadruple] was on for a while I suppose. This season we are looking really good, it is still early days, but we need a lot of consistency. It will be difficult but we are looking to win as many trophies as we can."
Liverpool.com says: "Right now, there's absolutely no telling where Trent Alexander-Arnold will be playing his football next season. While it feels as though Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk will probably sign new deals to extend their time at Anfield, Alexander-Arnold is much younger than both of them, and could be tempted by the lure of playing in a new country for a new team having spent his entire career on Merseyside.
"Of course, it would hurt for Liverpool fans to see Alexander-Arnold leave on a free, but the reality is a career is short. Should Liverpool go on to claim the Premier League this season, there's every chance that could convince Alexander-Arnold to stay. But when Real Madrid come calling, they usually end up getting their man."
