Trent Alexander-Arnold makes Xabi Alonso feelings clear with Liverpool gesture
Trent Alexander-Arnold has taken to social media to post a picture of himself with Xabi Alonso following the Spaniard's return to Anfield. Liverpool made it four wins from in the Champions League on Tuesday night with a 4-0 win over Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen's side.
Alonso had been tipped to succeed Jurgen Klopp last season. However, he opted to remain with the German giants and came up against his former club for the first time since leaving in 2009, having failed to play against the Reds during his professional career.
Alexander-Arnold has been likened to the former Real Madrid and Bayern Munich midfielder for his range of passing and was allowed to showcase his technical ability to the iconic Spain international. And taking to Instagram following his side's victory, the England international posted a picture of him sharing an embrace with the 42-year-old as he looked to retrieve the ball.

"It's just growing up wanting to be them. I was practising a lot on my passing and for me it's paid off and I'm reaping the rewards now "
In the past, Alexander-Arnold has made it no secret of his admiration for the likes of Alonso and Steven Gerrard, having rose through the Reds Academy ranks himself. Speaking in 2019, he admitted that he looked up to the formidable Liverpool midfield pairing.
"I think it's just about replicating the players that I wanted to be when I was younger – the likes of Gerrard, Alonso, who were unbelievable passers of the ball. I always wanted to be able to pass a ball like that," he said speaking to the official website.
"Obviously I still look up to them massively and sometimes I still find myself watching clips of them – especially I always watch his old clips, his old games. He's someone that I still look up to now and still an idol for me.
"It's just growing up wanting to be them. I was practising a lot on my passing and for me it's paid off, and I'm reaping the rewards now."
