Trent Alexander-Arnold is not in the running to purchase French outfit Nantes, despite swirling rumors of a €100m takeover bid.

French media had been abuzz with speculation that the Liverpool full-back was leading an ambitious charge, alongside his dad, to acquire Nantes from its current owner, Waldemar Kita.

The rumored deal reportedly included an €80m ($90m) upfront payment for the club, complemented by a €20m ($22m) seller credit and additional bonuses totaling around €40m ($45m). Interest was also hinted at potential bids for other French clubs, Saint-Etienne and Le Havre.

However, these claims have been dismissed as baseless. The Liverpool Echo has reported that sources close to Alexander-Arnold have outright denied any such intentions, branding the reports as "not true at all".

While Trent's supposed venture into club ownership has been debunked, Nantes' future remains up in the air, with Kita having expressed his openness to sell in 2022.

Yet, he seemed unconvinced by an offer from ex-Nantes goalkeeper Mickael Landreau. Speaking to RMC, Kita conveyed his willingness to consider serious proposals: "If someone feels as though they can carry the club financially and give reassurances, and that they are the best, I am open to it, no problem.

"I am open to all propositions but it has to be serious. You can't sell or buy the club via the media. It's not serious. Some things have gone too far. Mr. Landreau came to my office 7 years ago."

"He wanted to be delegate president of the club including my son [Franck, now delegate general director of Nantes]. I said no and 15 days later he was manager of Lorient. What did my son do wrong? He clearly has a higher level than these kinds of characters. Mr. Landreau, this isn't serious."

Nantes currently sit fifth in Ligue 1 after a positive start to the new campaign. They have two wins from their opening four matches and take on Angers away from home this weekend.

And while Alexander-Arnold will not be becoming a new owner of the club, he still faces a considerable decision over his future. The right-back is out of contract at the end of the season and would be eligible to leave Liverpool for free next summer.

Spanish giants Real Madrid are among the sides chasing his services. They have targeted him amid a push for Premier League stars next summer and are also interested in Rodri, William Saliba and Cristian Romero.
