Liverpool must act quickly this summer with Trent Alexander-Arnold in needing to tie him down to a new contract with Real Madrid reportedly extremely interested in looking to acquire him.

Alexander-Arnold is heading into the last year of his contract with Liverpool, with the Reds somewhat bizarrely failing to tie him up to a long-term deal, just 12 months away from him becoming a free agent.

Liverpool's backroom team have rarely let their star players get into the last year of their deals - looking to tie up their superstars to big extensions to avoid such issues as they could find themselves in now. The defender's current contract will expire on June 30 2025.

After another impressive season with Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold is set to get a chance to impress in midfield at the European Championships this summer. Real Madrid is also reportedly looking to target him after signing his close friend Jude Bellingham last summer.

As well as Bellingham, Madrid will see two of the soccer's best young attackers join this summer - with Kylian Mbappe and Endrick coming in alongside Vinicius Junior to form one of the most potent attacks in Europe.

And with Mbappe and Endrick joining, Madrid may have to make a move to offload a few of their attackers, potentially looking to do so in a deal to acquire Liverpool's vice-captain. TeamTalk has reported that Madrid could look to use winger Rodrygo, who Liverpool have reported interest in, to bring Alexander-Arnold the other way in a swap deal.

Madrid look to now have their best roster that they have had in decades, with Alexander-Arnold potentially being tempted by a move away from the club. Some fans had worried about Alexander-Arnold's future after Jurgen Klopp's exit, with him being seen crying at Liverpool's final game of the previous season - potentially thinking that he too could leave the club.

Arne Slot is likely to make Alexander-Arnold's future with the Reds a priority, with no move, or significant news on that front likely to come until after the player's campaign with England over the next month.

Liverpool.com says: Real Madrid look to be building a super-team once again after acquiring both Kylian Mbappe and Endrick after already winning the Champions League this season - winning the trophy twice in the last three years. The links to Real Madrid are obvious, Alexander-Arnold is the best right-back in world football, and a truly dynamic player who would only improve their already incredible attacking unit.

However, Alexander-Arnold has given no indication that he'd like to leave Liverpool, while even previously mentioning that he wants to remain with his hometown team throughout his career. LFC will not want to sell their future captain, meaning Alexander-Arnold would likely have to force a transfer if Madrid are looking to make the move happen - which feels unrealistic.
