Troy Parrott will be returning to Tottenham with new club AZ Alkmaar for the first time since his summer exit. The Republic of Ireland international saw his seven-year spell at Spurs come to an end earlier this year when he sealed a permanent exit to the Netherlands.

The 22-year-old spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Dutch club Excelsior Rotterdam and scored 17 goals in 32 appearances. Though Parrott impressed, the Wonder slipped to relegation on the final day of the season, but that has not prevented him from still playing in the Eredivisie.

From 11 matches with his new club, Parrott has found the back of the net on six separate occasions with four of those arriving in a sensational 9-1 win against SC Heerenveen. Parrott has also found the back of the net in Europe with Alkmaar qualifying for the Europa League and Tottenham drawn as one of their opponents.

The schedule has their fixture scheduled to take place on Thursday, October 24 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with Parrott keen to shine against his old club. Ahead of the clash, Ange Postecoglou offered his verdict on Parrott and the notion he did not get opportunities at Spurs.

"It is good to see Troy doing well, I think he had a great loan spell in the Dutch League last year," Postecoglou admitted in a press conference on Wednesday. "He is looking like he started his AZ career in positive fashion too so it is great.

"In terms of getting a chance, sometimes in football it is just about timing. We have a striker here mate who was at Chelsea and Liverpool early in his career and he has done alright since. There is a pathway forward for everybody." Though Tottenham and Parrott parted ways, it is clear the club expect him to flourish in the future.

Upon Spurs and Alkmaar agreeing a £6.7million deal, a 20% sell-on clause was inserted into the transfer, football.london understands. As he is considered homegrown, a possible return to north London cannot be ruled out with the clause meaning Spurs could reclaim his services at a cut-price.

Alternatively, a different club could snap up his services and thus the Lilywhites would be set for a significant windfall. Impressing on the European stage could see that scenario play out, though Spurs will be hoping Parrott has a quiet night against his former club.
