A respected journalist claimed Harry Kane is open to joining Man Utd next summer and the likely transfer fee has been revealed, while the Tottenham talisman has been tipped to emulate the last great signing Sir Alex Ferguson made.

Kane, 29, came as close as he’s ever come to leaving Tottenham 18 months ago. Man City lodged multiple bids north of the £100m mark, but Spurs chief Daniel Levy did not budge.

The striker’s current deal is due to expire in the summer of 2024 and as yet, there’s been little sign an extension is forthcoming.

Kane is understood to be on Manchester United’s radar ahead of what promises to be a blockbuster summer window.

Indeed, Wout Weghorst has been drafted in on loan to replace Cristiano Ronaldo. However, the Dutch international is only a stop-gap fix ahead of the real push for a top class striker in the summer.

TEAMtalk recently revealed a factor that could affect Kane’s future in north London is Antonio Conte.

The Italian is a world class operator, though is not being backed in the market as he would like. Conte’s deal is set to expire at season’s end and if he departs, we understand the chances of Kane leaving too will increase.

Now, the Independent’s Miguel Delaney has dropped a bombshell on the future of the England ace.

Writing in his Reading The Game newsletter, Delaney stressed that not only is Kane ‘open’ to joining Man Utd, but the Red Devils will explore a move.

Delaney also cited Tottenham’s diminishing profile if they fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League as a factor that would embolden Kane to leave.

At present, Spurs are five points off fourth-placed Newcastle and have played a game more than every team above them.

Signs pointing towards Harry Kane exit

“It is well known that Manchester United will go big for a forward in the summer but the growing question is who,” wrote Delaney (via HITC).

“Erik ten Hag would favour pace, such as Victor Osimhen, but the player’s contract and Napoli’s canniness could make that an extraordinarily difficult deal to do.

“That is the sort of thing that is usually said about Tottenham Hotspur, but the growing feeling is that may not be the case with Harry Kane this summer.

“It will be two years since his attempt to go to Manchester City and Spurs’ hand won’t be as strong due to the fact he will only have two years left on his contract.

“They may not be as strong in terms of the profile of the club, either, with so much dependent on whether they win a trophy this season or get back into the Champions League.

“If ever there was a time to sell, with Kane 30 in the summer and just a year until he can go for free, it might be then.

“He would be open to a move to a resurgent Man Utd, and they would obviously investigate it again. They’ve had strong interest before.”

Kane can replicate inspired Man Utd signing

Finally, Delaney claimed there’s been talk among Man Utd circles Kane could mirror the impact of the last great signing Sir Alex Ferguson made.

Ahead of his final campaign at the helm, Ferguson pulled off a superb coup when prising Robin van Persie away from Arsenal.

The Dutch centre-forward was coming to the back end of his career, though enjoyed one of his finest seasons ever when firing United to the title in the 2012-13 season.

Aside from winning the league, Van Persie also scooped the golden boot award for being the division’s top scorer with 26 strikes.

“There has already been talk of how he could become another Robin van Persie figure in being obsessed with finally winning club silverware,” concluded Delaney.

On the subject of Kane to Man Utd, the Telegraph’s Matt Law recently reported Spurs’ new price tag is £100m.

That is lower than the bids City tabled 18 months ago and is representatives of both Kane’s advancing age and the fact he now has fewer years left on his contract.
