Thomas Tuchel could take Eddie Howe’s job at Newcastle United with Stan Collymore outlining the former Chelsea boss’ options.

The Blues ownership made the decision to sack Tuchel on Wednesday morning with various reports citing a breakdown in the relationship between board and manager.

Chelsea have made a mixed start to the new season with ten points from a possible 18 in the Premier League while Tuchel’s last match in charge came in a 1-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.

Tuchel was given more responsibility in the transfer market this summer but a report claimed last week that the German had ‘done little to prove that he wanted to take a proactive part of’ Todd Boehly’s new vision and culture for Chelsea.

And Boehly very quickly realised that Tuchel was ‘perhaps better suited to the more detached management style of the past regime.’

The former Borussia Dortmund boss made his devastation at the decision to sack him clear yesterday as he sent a message to the Chelsea fans and his former colleagues.

Tuchel posted on Twitter on Sunday evening: “This is one of the most difficult statements I have ever had to write – and it is one which I hoped I would not need to do for many years.

“I am devastated that my time at Chelsea has come to an end. This is a club where I felt at home, both professionally and personally.

“Thank you so much to all the staff, the players and the supporters for making me feel very welcome from the start.

“The pride and joy I felt at helping the team to win the Champions League and the Club World Cup will stay with me forever.

“I am honoured to have been a part of this club’s history and the memories of the last 19 months will always have a special place in my heart.”

Tuchel is obviously an extremely good manager and there will no shortage of offers for his services in the coming weeks and months but former Liverpool and Newcastle striker Collymore can only see six clubs that he could realistically join before the World Cup.

Collymore wrote in The Sunday People: “Maybe in Italy, a Juventus or one of the Milan clubs might be looking to make a change during the World Cup and they will be interested.

“But he can’t hang around too long for fear of becoming yesterday’s man and I wonder if his most likely destination will be one of our B+ clubs, such as Newcastle, West Ham or Aston Villa.

“Eddie Howe, David Moyes and Steven Gerrard could well be the ones looking over their shoulders and their clubs could afford to pay Tuchel £8m-£10m a year.”
