TUF 22 Finale Results: Frankie Edgar Stops Chad Mendes in the First

Frankie Edgar, ladies and gentlemen.

Edgar didn't disappoint, stopping Chad Mendes in the first round of their main event at “The Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale” on Friday evening in Las Vegas.

The former UFC lightweight champion persevered through an onslaught of leg kicks from his opponent, knocking out Mendes with the hands at 2:28 in Round 1.

Mendes landed a number of low kicks that nearly took Edgar's bottom out from under him. Edgar did well to counter with his boxing. The low kicks, however, were landing heavy and right on the thigh.

Later, Edgar stepped into the pocket and landed a right hand, followed by a left hook that sent Mendes falling to the floor. A couple more quick strikes on the floor to a dazed Mendes and the referee stepped in to put a stop to the action, signaling Edgar as the winner.

Following the win, Edgar indicated in his post-fight interview that UFC President Dana White left the arena because he didn't want to disappoint Edgar, which likely refers to whether or not the victorious fighter is next in line for a title shot.

“Come on, you got to give it to me,” Edgar said.

With the win, Edgar wins his fifth in a row, three of which are finishes. He'll now closely watch Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor fight for the UFC featherweight title at UFC 194 on Saturday night.
