Tupelo wins pair at Roff Festival

Mar. 14—ROFF — The Tupelo Lady Tigers won a pair of games against local foes Tuesday at the Roff Festival.

The Lady Tigers shut out Stonewall 10-0 in their opener before turning back host Roff 12-6.

In the other contest, the host RHS Tigers dropped a 7-5 decision to Stonewall in nine innings.

Tupelo left town still unbeaten at 7-0 on the year. Stonewall stood at 2-7 and Roff fell to an even 5-5.

Tupelo 10, Stonewall 0

Tupelo scored seven times in the bottom of the second inning highlighted by a three-run homer from senior Maci Gaylor. She finished 1-for-2 with four RBIs.

Jaycee Stringer led a 13-hit Tupelo barrage, going 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored. Liz Sliger also had two hits and drove in two runs from the top of the THS batting order.

Rebecca Dailey went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored for the Lady Tigers.

Stonewall collected six total hits, including a 2-for-2 showing from Lilly Wyche.

Tupelo 12, Roff 6

It was the hometown Lady Tigers that led 6-5 before Tupelo erupted with seven runs in the top of the sixth inning to swipe the victory.

Ava Sliger, Bailey Battles and Maci Gaylor all slugged home runs for Tupelo. Gaylor blasted a grand slam in the big sixth frame, Sliger hit a solo shot in the fifth inning and Battles cracked a grand slam in the top of the fourth inning.

Liz Sliger and Lainee Wafford led Tupelo's 18-hit attack with three hits each. Liz Sliger finished 3-for-5 with an RBI and Wafford ended up 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

Roff piled up 10 hits and Mallori Rogers, Shelby Ensey and Emma Hardison all had two hits each.

Rogers finished 2-for-3 and scored a run, Hardison went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored and Ensey clubbed two doubles and knocked in a run for the home team.

Sophie Eldred blasted a solo home run for Roff with two outs in the bottom of the fifth that put her team ahead 6-5.

Stonewall 7, Roff 5

Stonewall scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to secure the victory.

Lilly Wyche led that inning off with a triple and scored on a fielder's choice ground ball to the shortstop. Faith Ross later scored on an RBI groundout by Landree Dye and Sierra Lumbert — who had reached on a base hit — raced home on a Roff error that put the host Tigers on top 7-4.

The Lady Longhorns committed three errors in the bottom of the ninth inning and allowed an unearned run to score before stranding the potential game-tying RHS runs on base.

Lilly Wyche led the Lady Longhorns at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a triple, a double, two walks and a run scored. Lumbert went 2-for-2 with a double, three walks and two runs scored for Stonewall and Kaylee Ross finished 2-for-5 and scored a run.

Kaylie Cranford went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored in a nine-hit Roff offense. Brianna Bess finished 2-for-3 with two walks and a run scored and Emma Hardison ended up 2-for-4 with three runs scored for the festival hosts.

There were a combined 16 walks and 10 errors in the contest.
