I turned air blue with Man United insult to Kevin Keegan after losing £1,000 bet at Newcastle
Nicky Butt has revealed Kevin Keegan did not speak to him for weeks after the former Manchester United midfielder referenced Newcastle United's title heartbreak.
Geordies, of course, need no reminding of the position rampant Newcastle found themselves in back in January, 1996. Or what happened in the final months of that campaign after Manchester United overhauled the black-and-whites' 12-point lead.
It was the first title Butt won at Manchester United, but the former England international went on to join Newcastle in 2004 and found himself playing under Keegan when the Magpies legend returned for his second spell in charge a few years later. Let's just say that things got a little heated after Butt and team-mate Michael Owen lost a game of head tennis against Keegan and assistant Terry McDermott.

"It got a bit tetchy," Butt told Football's Greatest. "We had money on it. I remember Kevin Keegan going to me, 'You Man United players don't like losing!'
"I went, 'We never lost because you s--- yourselves'. He didn't speak to me properly for about three weeks. Honestly.
"He would speak to me in tactical stuff and I was captain at the time, but he didn't speak to me on a personal level for about two or three weeks. He really didn't like it.
"Anyway, he beat us so it was about £1,000 each so I went to the bank in the morning and I ordered a grand of 2ps and Michael got a grand of 5ps. We went into the office and he wasn't there so we put the 2ps all over his table. It was all over the floor.
"I was sitting in the canteen thinking, 'He's going to find it funny because he's such a nice, engaging guy.' He snapped because he still had what I said to him two weeks earlier in his head."
