It took some time.
Sixteen minutes and 35 seconds to be exact.
But in the end, everyone got what they wanted: The Calgary Flames' Matthew Tkachuk stood up for himself, the Edmonton Oilers' Zack Kassian got his pound of flesh and the fans were entertained in the latest installment of the "Battle of Alberta."
Following the last game where Kassian threw Tkachuk around after a second hit the Oilers forward did not like, expectations were high for the two to settle things on the ice. While they didn't go earlier in the first period when they lined up for a faceoff, and no one saw the undercard of Sean Monahan-Ryan Nugent-Hopkins happening, they finally dropped the gloves.
'Battle of Alberta': Flames win third installment in shootout
And of course, Twitter had to weigh in on the two going toe to toe.
Good for tkachuk for standing up for himself! Earned a lot more respect around the league. I wonder if he knew kassian was a lefty! I’m hoping someone told him before the game. I always watched video n showed teammates how to fight certain guys if they knew it was gonna go down!

You have to give Tkachuk credit...he didn’t really have to fight but wanted to make sure things were square. I’ve fought Kass (off ice) and those are some heavy lefts!! @NHLFlames @EdmontonOilers https://t.co/kBo5YeO7CK

Say what you want about Mathew Tkachuk but gutsy move coming out and answering the bell with Zach Kassian. Way out of Tkachuk's weight class but still showed up and was tossing em. #respect we play on @NHLNetwork

the headliners Tkachuk-Kassian
