Two words in brutal Tottenham take down that sum up embarrassing Daniel Levy situation

Whichever way you look at it, Tottenham are an embarrassment on and off the pitch at the moment. football.london's Spurs correspondent had it right in his post-match talking points after a dismal defeat to Leicester City.

Our man Alasdair Gold used the word embarrassing 12 times in a brutal take down of Tottenham's diabolical situation right now. Defeat to the Foxes was the fourth straight loss in the Premier League and the sixth in the last seven games. Only bottom of the table Southampton have been beaten by Spurs since the end of November.

Embarrassing was the optimum word, but there were two others that really hit home as well - 'try' and 'one'. Ok, so we need some context around those two, let me explain.

In his piece, Gold says that Tottenham are sticking by Postecoglou - for now - and that he retains the backing of Daniel Levy and the Spurs hierarchy. And to help him, football.london understands that Spurs will try to sign at least one player for him in the week ahead to ease the burden on his players.

Tottenham will try to sign at least one player in the final week of the transfer window. Incredible.

Postecoglou and his players have been crying out for help since before the transfer window opened. So far only Antonin Kinsky has come in.

That transfer was done early, suggesting the club realised the plight and that more deals would follow. It has not been the case. Kinsky remains the only signing to arrive in N17 27 days into the January transfer window.

The winter window is not easy to deal in - that is for sure - so signings are not a given. But surely more could have been done before now to improve Postecoglou's ailing squad?

There are no guarantees: Postecoglou has said so himself. "Yeah, potentially [there could be no more signings]. The club is working hard to get some help for the players," he said. "As far as I'm aware there's nothing imminent but things can move quickly in the final week."

Behind the scenes, the club is trying to sign at least one player for Postecoglou as he himself tries to keep his job in the Premier League - a job he has worked so hard to get. He is not without blame, of course, but trying and succeeding are two very different things and just one signing? Spurs need much more than that, it is very clear to see.
