Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has earned more money than MMA legend Conor McGregor and YouTube superstar Jake Paul but it is Canelo Alvarez who tops the list when it comes to fighters.

LeBron James is the richest athlete when it comes to total earnings while football trio Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar also make it inside the top five alongside Canelo.

The Mexican was well beat on Cinco de Mayo weekend by Dmitry Bivol in Las Vegas but he got paid well for the defeat.

Alvarez has made £69m ($84m) this year in boxing with an additional £4m ($5m) in endorsements, according to Sportico.

The four-division world champion is above basketball superstar Steph Curry and 20 time Grand Slam winner Roger Federer. The next boxer on the list is Fury. The 'Gypsy King' defeated Dillian Whyte in front of 94,000 fans at Wembley Stadium and has pocketed £52m ($63m). He added £5m ($6m) to his earnings through endorsements. More surprisingly, Conor McGregor makes the list and sits in 22nd spot despite having not fought since his defeat to Dustin Poirier in July 2021.

The Irishman was fighting Poirier for the third time but the fight ended prematurely with McGregor snapping his leg towards the end of round one. He made £26m ($32m) and picked up an incredible £16m ($20m) in endorsements. McGregor will more than likely be on next year's list too with potential fights against Michael Chandler and Kamaru Usman lined up. The fourth fighter mentioned inside the top 100 is Jake Paul - another one who is yet to fight in 2022. Despite this, he still earned an incredible £31m ($37m) in 2022. He could be a lot higher for 2023 as he is rumoured to be in talks to fight boxing icon Mike Tyson.
