UFC 159 Fight Card Grows with Addition of Johnny Bedford vs. Erik Perez

Johnny Bedford Explains Fiery Post-Fight Reaction After Headbutt Results in No Contest

Johnny Bedford and Erik Perez will square off at UFC 159 on April 27 in New Jersey. Bedford recently announced the fight via his official Twitter account.

“Time to make it official! I am fighting Erik Perez, April 27th at #UFC159,” he tweeted. “Both undefeated in the @ufc Sorry homie but your 0 must go!!”

Bedford (19-9-1) made his way to the Octagon via The Ultimate Fighter: Team Bisping vs. Team Mayhem, the series’ 14th season. He made it all the way to the semifinal round of the tournament, losing to eventual TUF 14 winner John Dodson.

Bedford has since made two official appearances in the UFC, defeating Louis Gaudinot at the TUF 14 Finale and Marcos Vinicius at the TUF 16 Finale.

He is currently on a three-fight winning streak.

Perez (13-4) enters the fight winning eight consecutive bouts.

He made his way to the Octagon without a stop on The Ultimate Fighter, although his first UFC bout was at the TUF 15 Finale, where he defeated John Albert via a controversial armbar. The referee stopped the fight although Albert didn’t appear to tap or verbally submit.

Perez left no doubts in his follow-up performances, knocking Ken Stone out in just 17 seconds at UFC 150, and then scoring a TKO stoppage of Byron Bloodworth at UFC 155.

The two will meet as part of the undercard in support of the UFC 159 headlining bout between UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and challenger Chael Sonnen.
