UFC 159 Medical Suspensions: Jon Jones and Alan Belcher Among Indefinite Suspensions

The UFC 159: Jones vs. Sonnen medical suspensions were released to MMAWeekly.com Saturday night following the event by the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board.

Several of the event’s fighters received indefinite suspensions pending medical clearance. Chief among them was UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, who broke his foot in his victory over Chael Sonnen.

Jones later tweeted from the hospital, “Yep still at the hospital bone definitely broke through the skin.”

Co-main eventer Alan Belcher’s injury was more of a grave concern, however. He was poked in the same eye that he had surgically repaired for a detached retina in the past. The extent of Belcher’s injury was still unknown at the time of publication, as he was seeking further medical evaluation and did not attend the post-fight press conference.

UFC 159 took place Saturday, April 27, at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
