UFC 183 Results: Al Iaquinta Stops Joe Lauzon in the Second

“Raging” Al Iaquinta extended his winning streak to three consecutive fights by finishing notoriously tough Joe Lauzon at UFC 183: Silva vs. Diaz in Las Vegas on Saturday.

The opening round was competitive and close. Lauzon controlled the center of the cage and landed counter right hands while Iaquinta delivered leg kicks. Late in the frame Lauzon jumped in with a knee and then applied a guillotine choke, but Iaquinta defended the submission attempt and got to his feet.

Iaquinta mixed up his approach by attacking the body and head. Early in the second frame, he landed a right hand that put Lauzon on shaky legs. He continued to land shots as Lauzon struggled to regain his balance. Iaquinta stayed composed and picked his shots as Lauzon desperately tried to recover. After a series of punches found their mark, the referee had seen enough and stepped in to stop the fight.

“That’s what it is, man. Come in here calm, cool, collected; we’re not going crazy. I’m picking my shots. I feel good,” said the 27-year-old lightweight following the TKO win. “I stayed calm. I can do that all night.”
