UFC 187 Results: Joseph Benavidez Grabs Decision Over John Moraga
Joseph Benavidez beat John Moraga in the opening fight of the main card at UFC 187 in Las Vegas on Saturday.
Benavidez controlled the bout from bell to bell, winning a unanimous decision with scores of 30-27 across the board.

After taking a head kick, Benavidez unloaded a barrage of punches early that dropped Moraga. On the ground, Benavidez showed superior grappling before Moraga returned the fight to the feet, completing a belly-to-belly suplex for style points, but ended up giving up position.
Moraga became more aggressive in the second round, but the intense exchanges caused a butt of heads and opened up a cut on his head. Benavidez brought the fight to the ground and controlled his opponent from side control through the end of the round.
Round 3 showed Benavidez continuing to have the edge, doubling the amount of total strikes of his opponent. He scored a takedown and Moraga couldn't bring the fight back to the feet. Benavidez remained in top position until time expired.
With the win in Vegas, Benavidez improves his MMA record to 22-4 and places himself in prime position to return to title contention.
